Fuel Consumption - Seat Leon 2.0TSI FR

Does anyone drive a 2010/60 or later (manual) Seat Leon 2.0TSI FR with the chain-cam engine (or a manual Audi A3 2.0 or perhaps a Golf with the TSI engine)? If so, please can you confirm the combined mpg you are actually getting?

Seat claim 38.7 mpg combined for the Leon 2.0 TSI FR, but that's the EU figure, so it's likely to be wildly optimistic.

Thanks,

Razoo

In the real world expect 30-35 mpg. Low 40s if you drive like a granny and late 20s with spirited driving.

Most people tend not to drive an FR TSI for its 'excellent' real world mpg figures.
Enjoy the car, spirited driving should be chosen at every opportunity (when the conditions allow you to do so). ;)

I did some research before buying my FR TSi and the Golf GTi people with the same engine see an average of 35mpg. Up to 42mpg on a steady motorway run and around 30-32mpg town driving.

So you estimates are pretty much spot on, not bad as my current FR TDi only get's around 35-36mpg in town driving average overall so far of 45mpg.

Hello,

Dragging this from the depths! (apologies!)

I'm looking to get a Leon FR for my Daily Driver. At the moment I'm doing a commute (all motorway) of about 100mi a day round trip. I've been looking for an FR TDi but just can't find one close enough with the spec/options I want. Looking at the 2.0TFSI FR there are so many more (below budget) with the everything I want!

I know I've been spoiled with diesel mpg but realistically how many miles are folks getting to a tank of motorway driving? Can I justify to the boss (aka wife) that a petrol is really an option?

Want to get back to Petrol fun/power... but really should stick with diseasal :(

At the weekend I did a 280 miles round trip when I went to Inters. I averaged 37mpg for the whole journey sat at 80-90mph on the motorway all the way there. However my average since I got the car is 27-28mpg, mainly due to my heavy right foot and short commute to Uni and work. ( <7 miles) If driven normally they are quite an economical car, but I just can't do it

Depends on the drive.
Used to do a heavy traffic drive every morning for 10 miles. I'd do about 280-300 miles on a tank.

Now I work somewhere else where there is little to no traffic and I think I'm gonna get 350odd miles out of a tank.

So I'm hoping to e able to get gas once every 3 weeks or so
(not gonna happen)

At 350mi/tank I'd have to fill ~1.5 a week... 55litre tank? ~£115/week in fuel! Hmmm maybe I'll hold out for a decent spec'd Diesel FR after all haha!! At the moment in the Ibiza I get 450-470 miles out 45litres.

Haha
No chance then mate.
350 on a tank is a total long shot!
I haven't done it yet. Most I've done is 335 miles on some very long and slow motorway drives.

At a certain point you just have to give into the soot chuckers.
Or p1ss away hundreds on fuel for a bit more fun :)

At 350mi/tank I'd have to fill twice a week... 55litre tank? ~£130-150/week in fuel! Hmmm maybe I'll hold out for a decent spec'd Diesel FR after all haha!!

£40 worth of fuel in my mk2 fr Tdi gets me about 300 miles..... That's about 3/4 of a tank and mostly driving on a/b roads doing a steady 60/70

I don't really do much motorway driving on my commutes to work...... If I did my mpg would probably be better? I average about 45 mpg iirrc

I can only get 37mpg if I'm doing a solid 60 on cruise control :-o

I went wild on the Motorway last weekend, as set the cruise to 65 - computer said I managed 34mpg on a 100 mile run.

I recognise the rest of that though :)

I must have a good one  When i first picked it up I had a 90mile drive home, so I took it easy while I was getting used to the car and sat behind a lorry and set cruise to 56mph all the way home and the constant consumption was reading 50-60mpg ! Its a shame I found the loud pedal after that very first run :(

It best when coasting to traffic lights and its reads 200mpg for a few seconds

I've found that if you find a route where you can basically avoid your brake as much as possible, your mpg will increase by a good 5-6mpg

Traffic+braking+50/50 road mix = 25-28mpg
No traffic+no braking + 50/50 road mix = 34.3mpg today :)
And 33.4 on the way back

As I'm buying this for my daily driver (~90% commuting, 10% fun) I'll wait for a decent diesel FR.

In the back of my mind I'm thinking that I may be moving job which will cut my commute, but a) I can't guarantee it b) who says it'll be any closer!

I went to see a Ref Sport 140 with the BTCC kit, reasonably priced for mileage etc from an indy garage. Got there. Back half of the car had been painted, mottled, inconsistent colour match, filler was sinking in the boot where it had been repaired. Looked at the MOT history, lot's of advisories year to year for rear tyres and wheel bearings which to me indicates a shunt and something's out of alignment.

Just nothing close by me at the moment :( and the above experience prevents me from really wanting to travel xxx miles to see a car and be disappointed!

Having owned both the FR TDi CR is 9-10mpg better than the FR TSi and also you pay less RFL on the TDi and slightly cheaper insurance. TSi is much more fun to drive and sounds and goes better. But for 10% fun the FR TDi may the one that fits your criteria best.

I count you lucky only having to fill up that many times a week!

I have the 1.6TDI and do around 650-700 miles a WEEK. I still have to fill up around once a week. In my old Corsa I was filling up 2-3 times a week.

We've done the reverse going from a TFSi to a CR diesel as I was fed up with low mpg..28 average and 35 max driving miss daisy style.

I'd agree with jezyg the petrol drives better (lighter front end helps..) but imo there's not much in it and TDi or CR engines have mapping options to liven things up.

With your mileage I'd wait for a decent diesel to come up closer to home but don't be put off travelling for a deal because of one duffer.

I'm currently driving my second TDi FR this one being the CR one. This is my 4th diesel in succession as before that had two Golf TDi's. As you can see I am very happy with the TDi and I have really found the CR the most fun to drive out of the four.

However, I will probably be changing my car next year when it is 3 years old and I am seriously considering trying the FR+ with the TSi engine.
I only average about 12,000 miles a year and quite a bit of that is comprised of short daily 2-3 mile journeys to and from work and a half a dozen 10 mile journeys each week. I do some longer journeys especially for holidays and trips up from Nottingham to the West of Scotland but I think with my generally low mileage I won't be too out of pocket by trying a TSi, especially with the price of petrol being cheaper than diesel.
Apart from that I'd like to have a more fun car to drive whilst I'm still working and can afford to run it! The last 2 times I've changed my car I have been thinking about going for the TSi and my Seat dealer has put me off and persuaded me to go for another TDi. I really think I will give it a go this time because with the price of fuel increasing as it has done over the past few years I may not be able to afford to run one if I leave it another 3 or 4 years.
