Going to be changing my fuel filter on my 2014 seat Leon 1.6 tdi (mk3-5f). I know what I'm doing when it comes to doing the work but my issue is do I need to prime the system after the change before the engine is started or do I just start the engine?

Not sure about the 1.6 but on the 2.0cr TDI you change the filter and keep cranking till it starts.
Makes it faster if you fill the new filter with diesel before fitting.

First check you have the right filter, sounds silly but all the oem catalogues were incorrectly showing the mk2 filter part number for the mk3, they are not the same.

Undo the torx bolts on the lid, move to one side, (put a towel under and around the the filter housing first, as some diesel will spill out as you remove the top of the housing) very very slowly lift out the old filter in stages to allow the diesel in the filter to drain back into the filter housing, when you put your new filter in do it very very slowly as you need the filter to absorb the fuel as you let the new filter slowly go to the bottom of the filter housing ( if do it to fast and dont give the filter time to absorb the fuel, you will force the diesel in the filter housing to overflow out the top, which not only makes a mess, it means you'll need to add fuel to the filter housing before you put the top back ) once the filter is all the way into its housing, it should have displaced enough diesel fuel and the fuel should be almost to the top of the filter housing.

If the filter came with a new large o ring change the one on the filter housing lid then as they say in all good manuals, replace the top of the filter housing in the reverse of how you took it off, make sure it's fully seated and
Don't over tighten the bolts, it only needs around 5 to 8nm ( use a torque wrench if possible)

Start engine as normal and let it run on a fast idle for a minute or two

Apologies just read you post properly, you probably know all the cr*p I wrote of by heart, didn't mean to try and teach you to such eggs ☺

But it might be useful for someone less skilled

wheel tramp/banging

Now my leon cupra 280 sc has done a few miles ive started to give it a bit more stick, and finding that when going over lumps, patches, iron works or road repairs the banging from the front gearbox/ engine area is bad, i never had this on my last car (magane rs 250 cup) any one else finding this??

Hi kentbloke, you might have more luck if you start a new post in the main mk3 section, no one's probably going to see your question tucked away in here unless they are looking to change their fuel filter :)
