Hey folks,

I've recently taken the plunge and had full link fitted to the beast. He's a 65 plate MY16 Leon FR so all they had to do was install the release code and swap the USB port over.

Mobile being used is Samsung S7 on Marshmallow (android 6??).

I'm still getting used to how both Android Auto and Mirrorlink operate, I have various frustrating gripes about them already but equally some of the stuff is great.

Before I went ahead with full link I found that I had to play around in various dealer cars with the system fitted so that I could see what I was paying for. I was a little disappointed with the lack of information available on the World Wide Web so felt like I was diving into the unknown. A pretty steep dive given the price!

I'm hoping I can help any of you lovely folk who might be Umming and Ahhing over it by answering any questions you have, I'll spend some time today fettling with it and post up a few pictures, but if there's anything specific you wanted to see, or any apps you want to see in action then leave a comment below and hopefully we can start building a decent source of information about the system so it's less of a plunge for fellow Seatcupra acolytes :)

Ive ordered a Cupra 290 Black and from what I can see it comes with full link so im definately interested in seeing some stuff ahead of delivery.

My list of things to see would be google maps, google play music and phone functions being used??

I'm not sure what else I would need to use during a drive really?

MIRRORLINK

After a fiddle this morning I've come to the conclusion that using mirrorlink via the Seat Apps is absolute arse. Clunky, slow and extremely limited on options. Plus you can't seem to be able to actually mirror your phone onto the car, you can only use your phone as a launcher for the app to display in the car. I managed to mirror my phone like for like onto the car (which looked epic) by spamming the exit button on the seat app when it launches. However as soon as you press anything (Messages for example) on the car display; the app automatically forces itself open again. Would love to know if there is a way around that.

The ML music player also keeps changing you back onto the generic car system to choose your source, which means re-entering full link once you've found your tunes. You also cannot use your phone as a source through mirrorlink as Bluetooth and USB are blacked out. Only Radio/CD/SD card and Aux is allowed. Poor designs here.

You cannot access your phone in your hand at all whilst connected to mirrorlink. A bit pants given that ML doesn't have any sort of contact browser (unless you preset your favourites) or microphone to dictate messages.

Overall I rate the Seat Apps Mirrorlink very poor. Nothing of use appears to be accessible, it's a little glitchy and I spent most of my time swearing at it.

Apart from the lap timers; I cannot see any reason I'd ever want to use this.

ANDROID AUTO

Now AA on the other hand... Very good.

Whilst it doesn't do anything in the shape of widgets, you have four screens to choose from:

- Music
- Nav (Google maps)
- Phone
- All of the above displayed in an overview.

BUT, it does all of these absolutely brilliantly. Easy to navigate, smooth and responsive, soft on the eye and everything is large and simple so you can operate whilst moving.

WhatsApp and standard text integration means whilst you can't browse through your texts or conversations as an actual list; you can see a banner appear on the screen when a message comes through which gives you the option to have it read out, after which you can dictate a reply and the car will read it back to you and then send it if you're happy. All without taking your hands off the wheel.

Being Google operated, you also have the ability to ask Google various questions, as well as operate the entire system via voice. Which is brilliant. Simply long hold the voice button on the wheel and the microphone lights up on the screen and away you go, something you'll be used to doing anyway if you use android. Google's voice recognition is also near faultless, it never struggled to understand what I was saying, and from what I've seen also adapts to your voice the more it's used.

A few things I've asked:

1) "Play Adele (guilty pleasure...) on Spotify"

1) *playing adele* - spotify opens on the screen and starts playing adele's popular songs.

2) "How long is the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier"

2) *HMS Queen Elizabeth was (that's ominous!) 280 metres long*

3) "where is my nearest Franky and Bennies?"

3) *Your nearest F+B's is in Kidderminster, roughly 14 minutes on top of your current journey*

So far so good for AA, I'll post some comments up about each various screen (music, phone etc) as well as some other things I've encountered once I get back home this evening. For now, my thumbs need a tea break. Enjoy some android auto pictures below!

Good choice of car! I'm jealous :D Here's some pictures for you, I will post up some more with explanations later on this evening :)

Note it's just my camera giving the warped effect on the screen, some edges appear curvy too, they're straight as an arrow in reality!

Using Apple Car Play in MY16 280 and its rather good, just Apple Maps is crap so I just use Waze on the dash like I used to.

Hopefully be buying a Note 7 soon so will be back on Android. Question does Waze work yet on AA?

Brilliant - glad someone else has found that Mirrorlink is pretty much useless - unfortunately my Nav High being a MY 15.5, doesn't have Full Link, only Mirrorlink and probably missed production by a week or so and as far as I know there is no way of retrofitting Android Auto/Apple Carplay.

Must admit I had naively assumed that Mirrorlink was just that and would mirror exactly what was displayed on your phone, but the intervention of SEAT ConnectApp seems to have put paid to that and everything seems very random indeed!

Anyone else had any experience of Mirrorlink?

How much did you pay for the code? I have the same year MK3 and just been quoted £199.

Yep that's the same for me, thought I'd treat myself and after using android auto for a few days I think it's great. Not the first place I'd spend a spare 200 quid, but not regretting the purchase at the moment.

Something I like is that you can also set up alarms, reminders, you can ask what is on your agenda for the day (or just what is next) etc. on your phone via the voice commands, I find it very useful as I am becoming a deep thinker when stuck in traffic and can arrange my day. Navigation is also a big plus as it also uses Google traffic information and can save you a couple of minutes here and there, I used it for a trip from Bulgaria to Croatia the other day and can say that it works fine with offline maps (no traffic info though) I disabled mobile data due to sky high prices in Serbia.

Can the infotainment system be updated on a 2015 280 ST?

Can the infotainment system be updated on a 2015 280 ST? It has the older system with the media/USB port in the glove-box (preferable in my opinion for neatness).
