GAP insurance (and other bits)

Whilst we are buying ours, we started thinking about what other bits we need to get over and above the car itself.

Thought about a few things below and wondered where people found the best deals. Things like...

GAP insurance - Found a decent price anywhere
Tracker - Specifically did it reduce your insurance?
SupaGuard type protection - Is the film better than the polymer stuff?
Window film protection - Did you get tinted film at the same time?

Since ours is coming along soon, I thought it might be an idea to see who else has considered these and what you guys ended up getting.

GAP : mine went from £350 to £200 quid when we bought ours. The dealer tried a couple of times at the full price but when we picked the car up, they had a special offer on.

SupaGuard - No its rubbish. Buy some decent products and do it yourself. You will probably take more time and care than the dealers.

Not sure about the other two though, the windows in the FR are already tinted and I wasn't sure about a tracker. You could always get one at a later date.

Same here, I paid £200 GAP on my Skoda before, as its the same company and similar car, the dealership put up no fight and had no problems matching it

As its the 'last' thing you arrange (well, I normally arrange it last thing along with finance), its easy to haggle them down in my experience

No idea's about the other stuff i'm afraid

yep - GAP insurance for mine 2yrs ago was about £200 IIRC.....

out of interest can you still get cap insurance on a car if its over 3 years old?

If you have not bought GAP insurance yet, I would recommend RTI (Return to Invoice) Insurance from Hitachi We paid about £180 last year for a 2.0 TDI sport. Easy enough to find on the internet or click on the link:

Supaguard and the window film protectionfrom the dealer are NOT worth it! These are areas for the dealer to push up the "margin" i.e. their profit on the car. You don't need them! As all these products do it feed your paranoia about get your new car damaged before you have even driven it. If they are all so necessary I would question the quality of the car in the first place!

As for the Tracker it depends what model you are getting. FR or Cupra it maybe worth it. You would have to balance any saving on insurance against the cost of installation and any further subscription for the tracker. Shop around for insurance quotes.

I got the seat RTI gap insurance for £210, as mentioned the FR has quite discreet privacy glass in the rear, the supaguard is a waste of money buy it off ebay and put it on yourself for a fraction of the dealer cost, tracker if it was stolen would you want it back??
