Anyone know if the 'optimum' gear change indicator can be switched off? Not sure about the petrol cars but in my TDi it's way off. Seems to want me to up the gear at around 1.5k rpm in each gear, fine from 1st - 3rd but 4th and up makes the car judder. I don't follow what it suggests but I keep seeing the triangle popping up and it's annoying.

Also, does anyone else's cruise control cause the car to speed up when activating it?
Try putting it on in 3rd

I know it's not made for 3rd but mine does it in 6th too, not always though???

Could be wrong here but mine did that once, i thought it was because i set it to a higher speed, like 60 for a speed cam then i wanted it set at 50 and when i ativated it when to 60 :), i just reset it and it worked fine.

I didn't even know it could be set to a certain speed. I've always just pressed the button and it stays at the current speed.............................most of the time.
Think I should make an effort to read the manual

No idea if you can turn it off but completely agree that it tends to want an early change, especially 4th/5th/6th where if you follow it you end up with a tdi tractor.

Depends which button you press to activate the cruise control...
If you press the bottom half of the rocker, it will stay at the speed you're currently doing.
If you press the top half of the rocker it will return (or try to) the speed you last told it to cruise at.

i think i've got that the right way round...

Yea that sounds bout right.

Yep bottom button will set it at the current speed and top button will restore the previous speed provided you havent switched it off and on on the actual switch.

Once cruise control is active, you can increase the speed by holding in the top button, or decrease it by holding in the bottom one.

That explains it! My mate has been whinging about this for a while - he just thought the car liked a bit aof pace :D

I was driving to work last week, doing 80-ish in 5th, up a small hill, and the gear indicator wanted me to change down to 4th!
Gave that a damn good ignoring, but why is it telling me to do something stupid?
'Pooters - cars are full of them, but they can't 'feel'.....

I have an Ibiza ST 1.4 and find that the engine is more responsive to pressing the top button of the cruise control than when I depress the accelerator pedal.

Hill climbing in 5th gear is possible with cruise control whereas on the same hill I need to change down to 4th when cruise control is not selected.

my car doesnt have the gear change feature and ive got the cruise control

mine is the manual 5 speed gear box, where is the indicator light located?

perhaps as my car the only thing that tells me is the gear lever itself nothing on the dashboard computer
