Gear changing problem

Anyone can help me on this. I have a 2005 leon mk1 1.9 tdi fr editon, when I get up to 5th and 6th gear I can’t change down. For example I can’t change from 6th to 5th or 5th to 4th however I can put it into 3rd first then it will go back into any gear I want. Any ideas?

Syncros maybe? Can you change if you rev match?

I haven’t tried that, I was thinking it could be gear box oil not been changed for a while stiffening it up in certain gears?

130,000, hoping it’s not expensive fix

Had to put new gearbox in?

Yeah, get's fitted on Tuesday. Went shortly after I'd had my clutch and DM flywheel replaced. The mechanic at the time said there was an excessive amount of metal flakes in the gearbox oil when he changed it.

Mine has a racing helix clutch and a single mass flywheel the single mass flywheel gives off a rattle. How much did the gear box cost?

Paid £330 for a second hand one. 5 speed manual for mine though. Yours would be a 6 I guess.

Yeah it is, don’t know where to find one if I’m honest.

I asked my local garage who passed me on to a VW garage who used a specialist breakers. Convoluted, I know. There are plenty of places that will recondition your current box too.

Have you been told how long your without a car for?

Broke down on Monday and it's taken till today to source and have the box delivered today. Took it to my mechanic and due to the bank holiday they fitting it on Tuesday (4 hours labour). Not too bad for me as I had my Mrs car to use while mines been out of action.

Do you think it’ll be the box 100%? Still drives fine other than the pain to get down in the higher gears? Debating on whether selling it or waiting

I can't say 100% but I'd get it looked at first before deciding on what to do next.

I’ve been told it’s something to do with the gearbox whether it means complete knew I don’t know, only bought the car a few days ago

Was it a private sale mate? Did it get mentioned or noticed when you gave it a test drive?
