Question i have is which gearbox will given longer gearing with a BAM lump?

ERF ARL 6 2WD Mk4 Golf GT TDI 150, 1.9PD TDI 130

ERR 6 2WD 1.8 ltre Golf/Jetta 98-99

i have a pdf table that lists gearbox codes and the resulting speeds
At 6500rpm with 195/50/15
ERF will give you a theoretical top speed of 206mph in sixth
ERR will give you a theoretical top speed of 145.9mph in sixth
FZQ will give you a theoretical top speed of 145.7mph in sixth

oh and a FJW box as fitted to polo/fabia/ibiza pd130 will give you a theoretical top speed of 241.1mph

Any idea of speed in each gear with 18inch wheels??

not entiarly sure you would likely need to work out the percentage difference between the size you are running and 195/50/15's there should be an online site that can tell you this

with 195/50/15's the speeds in different gears are

ERF 35.9 64.9 102.3 138.6 172.0 206.0
ERR 33.1 53.8 76.4 98.3 121.2 145.9
FZQ 33.1 53.3 75.7 96.7 118.9 145.7
FJW 39.4 71.1 112.1 162.9 201.8 241.1

edited to add this is assuming 6500rpm

for example using this site http://www.anycalculator.com/tiresize.htm
if you had 225/40/18 and were revving to 6500rpm with a FJW
that is a diffference of 9.6% over the 195/50/15 so would give a theoretical top speed of 264.2 mph
