Evening all , got an issue that has been rattling my brain
I have like a whining noise mainly In 5th can hear in 6th too in low revs
I try to ignore and just use lower gear but when I go in to the whining gears it does my headin and I'm sure like everyone else the would wanna get to the bottom of it if it was your own. I'm thinking a bearing of some sort, could it be the clutch it feels sh*t as is but not bad enough to need changing right now unless it is the whine.
any Advice would be appreciated
Thanks all

Go into 5th, make it whine, accelerate until it doesn't whine or an extra 20 to 30 mph, and then lift off and coast back through the whine zone.

A gearbox whine will normally get somewhat louder with increased load and you should find when you coast back through the whining zone that whining is quiet by comparison or not present. Bearings would be the culprit and gearbox oil, or lack thereof the cause of the wear.

Clutch release bearings will whine in relation to the engine speed and in all gears and disappear when the clutch is pushed in. Dual mass flywheels ( honestly, who thought that would be a good idea) can make many noises, rattles, squeals etc again tho relative to engine speed.

The above is not an exhaustive diagnosis, but I would check the state of the gearbox oil, replace it and see how it is.

Something else to bear in mind is differential whine, usually louder with increased speed.

if you can drive with the window open you can sometimes hear these noises at a lower speed.
