Ok, while stationary my gearbox feels fine, goes into every gear really smoothly. However when driving it seems harder to get it into 3rd! Like when i push the gear stick forward it feels notchy, it doesnt crunch or anything just seems difficult sometimes.

Could the clutch need adjusting, or some gearbox oil?

All the other gears are perfect? any ideas?

could be oil, clutch should be self adjusting as most modern cars are now, so that wont be it...
If its knotchy, but no grinding or anything then im not sure, perhaps the syncro mesh?

bill will prob know, he seems to know alot about gear boxes..

Just thought id drag this thread back to life.

Dan did you ever resolve this problem?

As im experiencing almost exactly what you describe, mostly with 3rd gear but occasionally in others.

I have noticed slightly more movement from my engine on accelerating and coming off the throttle recently and wondered if a worn engine mount might be a reason for notchy gear changes?

Why would the cables melt steve could you elaborate? Do they run near the turbo or manifold? i would go out and have a look but the cars in the body shop at the minute i wouldnt be surprised as my cars been running very hot recently due to the secondary water pump packing in.

Are they easy enough to fit myself with just a jack and some axle stands or would i need a garage to do it?

Thats top steve, i haven't checked them but it all makes sense as the secondary water pump cools the turbo and if that wasnt working i bet it got hot enough to melt something.

When i get the car back ill give it a good check.
