my mate wants a cheap throw away car as he blew his FTO up last week and needs a car this week.

So looking at a mk2 GTI , there is one down the road in autotrader for £1200, what do we need to check as a must, cheers guys

Kinda pricey, looks like an 8v

So.... check rear wheel bearings, rust in teh rear arches, rust on the seam at the base of teh door
damaged radiator, hoses etc

That's about it... it should run fine, if it doesn't - then there's a few minor things to check to fix it.

£1k with ticket & some tax would seem fair

I'd agree with m0rk on the price, £1200 is a bit much for a car with that mileage I'd say.

Think it comes down to he needs a car for monday morning, and is looking at this, A mk3 golf GTi and escort GTI

steer clear of the escort
Zetec engine is horrible and rattle.

I had the duratec V6 in mine (mondeo) much better, but still very tappety.

well its all gone a little wierd now,
I got a text to say, Feck it i can't be bothered to get a cheap stop gap, gonna fo look at an Ibiza FR or Fabia VRS,

Wow he has seen the light. The Ibiza has been sold anyhow


As for Zetec's no problems with at all, i rana a 1.6 Zetec Fiesta Si for 3 years without any trouble

wow, turn up for the books, after a long discussion last night about wanting a tdi Fabia or Ibiza, he got a call this morning from the bloke saying the other guy bailed out last inute, so he popped round lunch time took it for a buzz and handed over £900 for it.

One owner from new, 112 k on the clock and ok for what it is, bit of rust on one rear arch and a bit tatty , oh and missing the drivers side sideskirt, but not too bad,

Even hhad me thinking of getting one till i had a drive and realised how spoilt i had been in the mk4.

But can't be moaned at for £900.

My mate sorted out some stuff for him at his motor factors.

Front Discs and pads, rear discs and pads, Ar filter, Oil filter, oil, Fuel Filter,plugs cap, rota arm, Brake fluid and cam belt kit, all for less then £100
