Hi

Fitted some grooved discs and DS2500 pads to my LCR a few weeks ago and they are pants. Tried changin the pads back to standard and they get better but he noise got worse! The main problem is the noise, the discs are so loud thay they drown out my stereo and even the missus has commented (eh!!). Can anyone give ne feedback on their experience with grooved discs, do they all souund so bad or are mine faulty?

Many thanks

Hi Jonny, when i bought my LCR thge previous owner fitted similar discs as he said they were alot cheaper than the originals ones, but i know exactly what you mean because mine are really noisy, if im breaking hard from speed they are terrible, if i have anyone in the car they think that something is wrong like a bearings gone or something. I get a bit sick of explaining to people "its just the discs"

You will get more noise with grooved discs.
What set up do you have.
Have you tried applying copper slip to the back of the pads.

Grooved discs

Yes, I have copper slip the back of the pads as normal. I did expect some additional noise but sometimes the noise is accompanied by vibration through the wheel,is this normal. These discs pads were v expenseive and the experience really takes the pleasure out of driving my LCR. Should I go back to the supplier and complain? JON

Which way are the grooves pointing? If you fit them with the grooves pointing forwards you'll get more noise, but you'll get better performance as they "cut" into the pads and essentially skim and de-glaze the pads as you brake.

If you fit them with the grooves facing backwards you'll get less noise.

I'd also ask the question how you bedded them in?

I've got EBC Turbo Groove on my LCR and they are noisy, yes. Some people commented that it doesn't sound good at all, but it stops amazingly! Don't know what pads are on at the moment, but DS2500s will be going on in the next couple of weeks. Personally I reckon that a bit of noise is worth putting up for when the car stops as well as it does. Brake hard and you have to fight to stop your eyes popping out!

I had a very similar situation years ago in my laguna v6
I bought some cheap grooved discs and greenstuff pads from a well known auction site!!!;) and they were rubbish every time i went over 40 and braked they would make a hell of a noise. I spent ages trying different pads, copper grease, anti rattle shims and still the noise was there.

So i then took the discs off the car and put them on a surface table and measured them with a DTi.

They were WARPED!!!

So my guess would be that you have baught some warped cheap discs that vibrate under breaking.

And i would never buy EBC ever again!!!
