driving along the other day and a stupid pheasant decided to headbutt my car. fortunately it didnt do any damage to the front, it managed to duck but ripped off the plastic cover that runs underneath the engine (no idea what its real name is). luckilly there was nobody behind me cause it could have been quite nasty.

anyway, was just wondering what you think i should do about it. do you think its worth forking out the obscene amounts that seat will no doubt charge me for a new one? (by the way does anyone know how much this will cost?)

thanks guys

The bit attached to the bottom of the bumper, or actually attached underneath the engine?

There was a chap on here a while ago (can't remember his name) who hit a Pheasent right at the top of the windscreen causing that to break and a nice dent in his roof!

the engine tray isnt really necessary, it helps cut down noise, keep the sump etc a little cleaner and less water gets up round the belts, but not totally necessary.

ouch, that other one looks very expensive! remember hitting a little bird. hit the plastic mesh under the number plate. didnt do any damage but had its arse and its feet sticking out, looked really funny.

went up to my dealers today and its £25 i think so might leave it as im a poor student... do you guys think it will make a big difference to the aerodynamics of my little beeza?

worst part of it all was going to pick up the knackered pieces on the road and putting them in my boot as they were covered in blood and pheasant pieces, made a right state of my boot.
thanks guys

called an engine undertray just there really to stop moisture getting all round the belts and bottom end and most needed in winter when salt is on road to stop the salt corroding and rusting things! worth replacing imo

Cost!

Just as an FYI:

I got quoted approx £190 for the 3 piece undertray from the dealer.

lol I saw my first pheasants when going up to the VAG crawley meet. Loads of dead ones up there. Are the pheasants brave or just really stupid?

if its the engine tray (one piece, squarish shape), and your willing to drive up to durham, you can have my old one for nothing. I had a run in with a fox on the A19 in my old Ibiza and it smashed the bumper, radiator and air con radiator - when i got the car repaired I just left the tray off. Its just wasting space in my garage... Youll just have to get the clips from Seat or somewhere. Car was an 03 tdi sport btw

Think yourselves lucky it was only a pheasant. My mate hit a badger at 50mph the other night. It made a right mess and actually nearly made him roll the car!
