Has anyone removed their handbrake lever and do you know if the button comes off ?

The previous owner of my car managed to chip sone of the chrome coating of mine , and I've just sliced my finger on it !

any help and guidance (on removal method) much appreciated.

Yes the button does come off and can be bought separately.

I believe it is held on with 2 plastic tabs on either side of the hand brake and with the hand brake off it needs to be squeezed and pulled off being careful not to lose the sprung rod that is behind the button.

when you say "handbrake off" do you mean the handle removed or the handbrake released as in the car will roll ?

Ideally I'd like to just pull the button off without taking anything else off , don't mind if it gets damaged as it already is , but new one would need to just click back in.
