Having trouble programming new fob

I bought a new remote fob for the cupra off ebay and am having trouble re-programming it, I have followed two guides I found but none work, any ideas?

Remote Control Programming 1997 on. (without VAG-COM)

1. Switch ignition ON and leave the key in ignition.
2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the drivers door using a second key.
3. Press the remote control unlock button once and the horn will sound once.
4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button to activate the coding procedure. The remote will now be programmed.
NOTE : If you are programming additional remotes the procedure is the same except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times (with a 1 second interval) depending on how many you have.
5. Switch ignition off.
6. Remove key from ignition and check operation (just in case )

I think so

The key is code number HLO 1KO 959 753N, and my original is HLO 1KO 959 753G, they are both 434mhz, but one is 09/07 (mine) and the new 09/09

Just a wild, random, totally off the wall, obscure, kind of suggestion................ take it to your local dealers, surely with the amount of your time you're wasting trying to get it to work a few quid to the dealers makes sense.

Because my local dealer is a complete waste of time, and also they have now moved more than 25 miles away

I have managed to crack the chip in my standard non remote key I hope it will still work, havent got the car here to find out, can new chips be programmed?
