Before anyone says...I have SEARCHED...:D but alot of the members that have done it are no longer around.

What i am after is any current members that have done the install below the current stereo, in a cubby hole fascia is the only way i can describe it

I am not looking to modify the current unit, but to install one below it here and wondered what is involved.

I'm guessing the wiring still needs to be modified to have two power outputs, and that a fascia would need to be made up to house the cage etc.

Any help or anyone who has done it and can give a guide would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

here is mine

guide on how to do it http://www.seatcupra.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=467&Itemid=6

or hooch can do the conversion for you , i have spliced in to the orginal head unit wiring so i can use the standard headunit or my pioneer head unit at one time i had both on at the same time was funny hearing two songs at the same time

thanks Chris, i was planning to put mine below the AC controls though in the cubby hole instead of where yours is. Have seen less members do it, but it would be what i am looking to achieve i think

Is hooch still on here then?

but what are you going to do with the heater controls though there was somebody last month that had made one fit in the space under the head unit but to me does not look right

I think we may have a misunderstanding. I would want mine under the heater controls, in an adapted fascia/dash that would go where the small cubby hole is, in front of the gearstick

its made from fibre glass, took time to do but was total worth it.

heres the finish product..

it looks better in person because i pushed it as close to the center console as possible (to reduce the gap)

i did it in the "dump" as i call it due to when i cut the center console facia up it looked really skabby.

if you need any help or pointers then give me a shout

Is the pdf no longer knocking about for fitting the stereo in the centre? I've got it on my comp and have been following it to do mine, here's where I'm at so far,

Fascia002-1.jpg

had to do the usual bit of butchering first though,

I scraped and sanded the horrible rubbery paint off as it was a bit scratched and manky looking then I gave it a couple of coats of satin black, just need to fit the thing now.:)

This is what i was thinking. Cheers mate,

How did you make the fascia for it then? Also im a bit confused of where to start, and what wiring needs to be done?

I think the vent one's pretty good but I haven't seen it for a while, you take out the top middle vents and block them off then fit the stereo in there. Those vents just dry my eyes out anyway.:)

I went to a scrappy and got the original/replacement part.. then I did some test runs.

I put the part in the correct place, got some sturing sticks and glued them into the "dump" to make a wall. I had a spare single din headunit surround so I put that where I wanted the headunit to sit.. basically put that in the right place and made the wall effect, it was basically a box with the whole for the headunit, if you get my drift?

Heres a diagram..

1) Standard unit
2) Added "wall" with headunit surround - glued
3) Added braces and support (when you fibre glass it can go wrong and warp, these braces stopped that). There was a headunit brace/floor so the unit itself could sit on it, this was fiddily but thats because im a perfectionist :p

Once fibre glassed, I sanded and painted.. job done :)

Cheers mate this is ideal. So does the cage/head unit already fit in the space provided by the original part, or does this need modifying? Ie. cutting into the sides of the 'cubby hole' to make space for the cage?

What did you do about the wiring?

It was abit tight getting it in so removing some of the siding could be a good idea, just be careful to mount it how you want it (central etc).

Wiring was pretty easy.. had the standard wiring you'd need for a standard headunit fitting but connected the wires to the correct wire on the center console. Be sure you wire the power source cable of your headunit to the same wire as the center console so when you put the key in and turn it the memory kicks in and loads the unit.

If you get stuck with the wiring side ill draw up a diagram or remove mine and take photos for you :funk:

I've got the pdf for installing the stereo but I don't know how to stick it on here, it used to be on here somewhere but I can't find it. If anyone wants it they could pm me their email address and I'll send it to you unless someone knows how to get it on here.:)

actuyally need to get it sorted wiv someones help so i dont chop it up to ****

currently just got my headunit cable tied in and no heater controls there at all lol

Where abouts do you live? Id do it for you but yano, its not a easy job and is rather time consuming
