Hi All,

Yesterday I used a headlight restoration kit on my front headlight and I thought i done a good job as it looked alot better.

However, in my restoration kit came with a small sachet of UV filter solution to wipe on once complete.

No sooner had a wiped the solution on as directed, my newly sanded/polished headlights started to develop cracks before my eyes.

Please see pics below.

I am gutted as I cant believe something so innocuous could ruin 4 hours of work right at the end.

Any ideas why this has happened and also do you believe there is a chance to re-sand these cracks out because they look pretty deep to me and would rather leave them as they are, than start to sand again only to find they cant be fixed and then its to late and i have to replace.

Thank you in advance

You can potentially purchase replacement lenses
If the lights are sealed with butyl, they are super easy to do
If they’ve used permaseal, a lot less likely to be able to remove them

So just for clarity you are suggesting that I can replace the plastic lense?

I was under the impression they can not be replaced

They can be replaced

I’ve pulled lenses off other cars before, swapped them out and upgraded projectors etc

There are two ways headlights are sealed

Permaseal
Butyl

Butyl is much easier to do, 115c in the oven for 10-15 minutes and they should just pull off

Permaseal less so, you have to effectively cut the seal
