I'm replacing my oem stereo with a double din unit in my 2006 mk2.

Stereo doesn't seem to be getting power an read that the factory unit doesn't have a switch live wire. Where the best feed for this?

Also does anyone know what wires are what on the factory unit plug.
Brown - earth
Yellow/pink ?
Orange/brown?
Orange/purple?

Thanks

I too bought an Ebay fitting kit with cage and ISO leads, what a waste of money, after fiddling about and doing all sorts of messing about getting a permanent 12V etc I took the advice and bought the Connects2 cable.

Yellow is permanent live, red is switched live. If you wish to use the switched live I recommend connecting it to your fuse box on the side of the dash using a piggy back fuse holder. Find a fuse that is triggered by the ignition.

I got as far as that, testing a large number of wires until I found what I thought was a permanent 12V and a switched 12V, imagine my amusement when the headunit was permanently on and could only be powered off by its on/off.
My incompetence I admit, but shelling out on the Connects2 in the first place would have been worth it for my time, I'm as guilty as anyone else in thinking that my labour costs are free.

you've gotta keep searching the fuses as some will be ignition only, others on all the time, others on and stay on for a few mins after the ignition is turned off, brake one will only be on when you press the brake etc.

The connects 2 cable is expensive but allows the use of steering wheel controls if you have them but also theres no re-wiring needed at all.

We'll I decided to wire in a switched live feed from the fuse box which took 5mins rather then spend 40 on another bit of kit.. I hardly use My steering controls and as I went for a touch screen double din I might as well make the most of what I have.

If i didn't already have everything needed to wire in a switched live then I would've ordered a connect 2 but it wasn't hard at all.

All working sweet now.

The steering controls were a secondary concern for me but as it happens I have found that the ability to answer the phone, control the volume, change tracks and change radio station without distracting me from the road is a very useful safety feature.
