Has anyone had this same problem my mechanic changed my HPFP follower, oil and filter yesterday and it has started a worrying rattle when ticking over sometimes when the throttle is blipped it does stop but comes back randomly.
There were metal shavings found in the oil that was drained out but cam follower has very very little wear.
My mechanic seems to this it is cam chain and tensioner but am also wondering if its an oil blockage problem.
has anyone had this problem?

I have put a video on facebook tfsi tuning page and mk2 leon page but it wont let me copy the URL to here :(

Oil starvation could be cuplrit, along with a worn chain/tensioner.

I'd get the oil pickup changed, have the oil pressure checked and go from there. A mechanic should be able to find the source of the noise for you though

Its going back to my mechanic in a couple of hours, really hoping it is just the chain and tensioner but have been seeing all sorts of horror stories. the only saving grace is that its an intermittent rattle and not a constant one that picks up with the revs that I've hear on some

Doing my pickup pipe tomorrow as I've seen what happens when that bad boy blocks. It's annoying that seat don't mention it really as it happens to a fair few people and costs loads to fix when the dreaded oil pressure light comes on the damage is already done.

Is the replacement as easy as take off the sump, take off old pipe, fit new pipe, refit sump?

Is the rattle coming from the right hand side of the engine? IE where the Chain Tensioner would be. I had this rattle at 60k mileage and got it done when I was doing the belt and water pump. When we got to it the tensioner was knackered and the chain had stretch a bit. Not rattled since .

The blocked oil pickup pipe only really happens when people haven't done regular services or used an engine flush which loosens all that grime in the sump which then blocks the pickup. But you have plenty of time and warning from the oil light coming on. You have to be really ignoring the oil pressure light for the oil starvation.

Doing mine as a preemptive strike as I've only had the car twelve months and have no idea how well maintained it truly was.

Yes it has full service history and is in good order but at the end of the day you can't take it as red that it's 100% legit service wise. Either way for the sake of a very small cost for parts there is no way I'm risking it. I've seen many that once the light comes on its done big damage.

Some are lucky but IMO I don't think it's worth risking.

I often get a bit of a rattle, sounds similar to a loose heatshield vibrating as the engine first starts (from cold), followed by a minute or two of extra ticking.

It seems similar to what the guy is describing here: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=273548 Not sure if this is the normal startup noise they describe in the manual, or maybe cam chain tensioner, any thoughts?

Its hard to describe and harder to even capture on video. The best way is just to have the engine running and put your ear close around the engine to localise the sound.

Obviously on start up and getting warm around the common rail and injectors you will hear that distinct rattle/clicking noise. All TFSI engines have this.

You want to put your ear near the right hand side of the engine where the VANOS (camshaft adjuster unit) and tensioner and chain is. If you can a separate rattle and clink from the injectors around there its a good chance its the chain and tensioner. What your hearing is the chain slack slapping around

Or better yet a good mechanic will be able to hear it within minutes and know what it is.
