Bought my first 04 Cupra TDi on Saturday, I have gone through 5 nr 14 fuses, this si for the remote central locking, electric windows and interior light. I have gone through a process of elimination and although it doesnt happen every time the centralk locking is activated, it is when it seems to occur. Ive used the search but can't find anything. Can anyone here help me in any way at all!!! Other than say take it to dealer for a £500/hour session. Is this a common fault??:cry::(

A good auto electrician will sort it out expect to pay around £50 hourly. It sounds like a poor earth or the circuit picking up a live in the earth circuit

Om Clueless

WHAT!! Do I take it to any old jack, I havn't got a clue!. Just been to dealers and they said, becuase the fault is intemittent, they have to do the full diagnostic, then failing that they will have to check all the cicuits.

He then said exactly what you said! Will it work out better to go to auto electrcian and how do I know if they are good enough to be able to do the job??

Thankyou fo yoour help so far?

Hi

Took it to dealership yesterday, and mechanic was completely confuesd, he said all he could do was to run a full diagnostic and hope that the car has stored a fault. Failing that he said he would hav to physically check every circuit.

So in terms of cost, how long is liece of string?

I called an Auto Electrician from the link below (Thanks for that by the way):D
he has talked me through, how to try and detrmine exactly when the fault occurs by locking and unlocking the car physically with the key for a few days and see if that makes any difference, this should save on the labour element of fault finding should I take it in.

Failing that do I leve it and spend £50 on fuses or take it in?

Think I sussed it guys, engine management light came on, on saturday, after pooing myself, i called a mobile tuning guy, he came out to read the fault codes, the car has determined that there is a problem wih the immobiliser reciever/signal when ulocking the car. The guy said to solce the problem I would have to get a new key cut, so im gussing this will be around £100. So I just hope this stops the fuses blowing.
