Ive got a query and I've searched but can't find an answer anywhere so reaching out to all the brains out there!

Im planning to replace my rear pads however I need to know if the callipers are "Giirling" or "Bosch", however mine have VWAG, I'm assuming means Volkswagen Audi Group, and below that, "TRW".

So theres my question; what do I need?? I'm looking to go to EBC Red Stuff pads.

Many thanks

Well, a quick google got me to this thread right in this forum showing Mk.2 Leon/Altea rear brake pad and disc replacement, and he has the same markings on his calipers, so I expect TRW are the manufacturer you should be looking for, not Girling or Bosch. How did those names come up, anyway?

This thread has some info about brake parts for the Mk.2 Leon

Many thanks, I reckon to have looked but obviously not quite hard enough, And the names Girling and Bosch came from a supplier near me, the computer said that the rear callipers on my Leon are either of those, hence my question, and I'd not heard anything about TRW, and as this is my first foray into the world of modifying, I like to have all questions answered before parting with the hard-earned!

And yeah, I've seen that thread, and doubled checked my disc sizes to those, and that matches, just limited information about the callipers and I've been told different callipers have different shaped pads, didn't want to end up with the wrong ones!

If I'm wrong anywhere then I'm more than happy to be corrected, I can usually find any answers by searching the forum or Google, but this time didn't succeed!

TRW are the OEM producers of the rear callipers, pads and discs. Personally I will only get TRW for the calliper stay OEM and for the red painted but get bosch or pagid discs and pads as they are great/best quality if not better than TRW products.

Bosch and Pagid are the premium end of the brake parts while Eicher and Mintex are the budget end and TRW are in the middle.

TRW, Lucas and Girling are all the same company, just to make things confusing :p

They can be awkward can't they!! But thanks for that, a very useful snippet I'll be sure to remember! And just realised that sounds quite sarcastic :/

And Dorny, yeah, I'm sticking with the OEM callipers, don't see the need to change those, just going for uprated discs and pads, currently weighing up RED Stuff pads, and I've heard good things when these are used with BlackDiamond discs, I know a guy who's had that combo and had 30,000 miles from them including quite a few trackdays! ;)
