Help with number plate bulbs please lads!

To cut a long story short, reg plate bulbs are giving me grief!

Car came with LEDs, one wasn't working. Replaced with standard, all good.

Decided to fit LEDs again... Bought some cheap eBay ones, these worked then a few days later flickered and stopped. So back to standard again.

Just spent 16 quid on some posh ones, fitted them and neither worked, now replaced with the standards and those aren't working either.

What the hell is going on?

Haha, yeah not where I go lol.

Really bugging me now, find it odd the originals have now stopped working to even though they aren't blown.

Is there a seperare fuse?

If it helps diagnosing it, I've just used one of those little screwdrivers with the light and can confirm the reg lights aren't getting any power.

Checked a sidelight and it lit up so the thing deffinately works.

Any ideas? Can't use the car tonight if I don't get it sorted

Okay, so found the fuse, it was popped. Dropped another 5amp in and the right one worked, put the left bulb in and it blew the fuse.

Please somebody help me lol, why is the left hand reg plate light popping my fuse?

If it's any help at all - not long ago I was blowing (standard, unmodified) passenger-side sidelight bulbs with high regularity, once every couple of months at least. Eventually when I came to change it for the last time, I managed to pull the earth connection completely out of the bulb socket whilst trying to free it from the headlamp unit.

At that point I realised that the earth might have been loose from the start - I managed to pop out the spade connector (if I remember correctly), remade the connection and refitted as well as I could. Since then (many, many months ago) - no more blackened/blown sidelights!

So the above is my reasoning for suspecting a poor earth I hope it is just a loose wire and not a dodgy circuitboard driving the LEDs - I'm unsure how the current gets translated for LED setup. Surely the rear bumper is less of a faff to remove than the front!

Can't the numberplate light holders be popped out without removing bumper ?

The lighting unit can be pulled down without removing the bumper, just get a thin blade or screwdriver down the side of the black plastic surround and it should ease off..

I'm going to have a look tomorrow of its dry! I managed to pop one of the bulb holders into the bumper, so was going to take it off to retrieve it... Didn't notice the two holders were part of a larger panel! (I'm not the most observant of people haha)

Man, what a ballache removing the rear bumper was, so many screws!

After switching bits about and blowing a couple more fuses, it turns out its one of the actual bulb holders at fault, the good one works both sides.

I'm just going to fit a new one and be done with it. Cheers
