on a spirited drive my cupra hesitates after gear changes for a second then carries on pulling like before. Only really noticeable 3-4 and 4-5 etc. and I'm beginning to suspect maybe the DV .. Does anyone else's seem to behave in this manner ?
Thanks

Sounds like turbo lag, when I had diverter valve problems it was more like lots of boost initially then it tailing off really quickly. A bit like driving a diesel, all power disappeared after 3000rpm when it should have been coming on steam.

If turbo lag is worsening it might be worth checking your airfilter's condition.

Oh right makes sense. I thought maybe it could be that my dvs opening on gear change but not closing quick enough and not allowing the initial boost to rebuild , I'm tempted to try the GFB do conversion, to see if that fixes it as I know that was one of its perks, and tbh if that works it would be worth it to me because it's annoying the hell out of me, e.g WOT change into 4th , nothing, then the kick in the back and off we go again kind of thing.

This sounds a bit like mine mate, and I thought it was normal. Unless I get the gear change perfect, then there is a bit of lag going into the next gear.

glad to hear im not the only one that has this. ok mate thanks for your input ill give that a go! .. let me know if it sorts yours out or not as well :)

ahhh looks hopeful .. ill have a go and let you know tomorrow if i get chance or itll be the weekend. have you got a cupra.as.well ?

ahh sorry I use tapatalk on my phone most the time so cant see your sig. Well I was called out earlier to 'look' at my mates new corsa vxr stage 3 with 244bhp as it was said to be quick. I won't lie I was a bit worried the weight advantage was gonna work wonders for him and I'd never forgive myself if I had lost lol but after a little play it was clear to see the cupra brushed it off with not too much hassle. Even though I totally forgot to check for the hesitation I did turn the esp off, and at no point did I think to myself 'ahh ffs'!!!! like i usually do. So it could just be that like you said? happy days!!! but now I got another problem!!! bad times :( I think im just overly paranoid and a hypercondriact for my car if that makes sense haha.

Well. if I give the cupra a good caning, it performs spot on bar the odd misfire on cyl1 which I believe is a coilpack, doesn't seem to be effecting performance just the flashing CEL for a few seconds and then gone. But if I leave it to idle afterwards it seems to plume whiteish greyish smoke? smells like its running very rich all the time but at this point it also smells a little bit kind of like a 2 stroke. so im thinking oil ... but then I drive it gently for 5 minutes and it all clears up and nothing at all? a lot of people think its just condensation and over fueling probably the **** generic map someone before me had installed. but I don't know and it bugging me a lot because if its condensation its a hell of a lot more than other cars, but it is also decat so that probably plays a part? I just don't know :( . Oh and also the whole back of the car gets covered in a oily residue which im guessing could be unburnt fuel or engine oil. it doesn't help that the temperature is still cold because then I could rule out condensation. aaahhhhhh :(

Hm. Could it all be related to the misfire? If fuel isn't being burnt properly, then I'm guessing at least some of those symptoms would present.

Get the pack sorted mate and see what happens.

yeah I think im going to treat it to a new set of coilpacks, check the spark plugs (theyre only a few thou old) and maybe try a different oil. what oil do you run yours on?

I'd say the sparks would be fine, but why not replace 'em if you're doing the packs.

Castrol Edge mate, that's the VW approved oil for our motors. I wouldn't trust anything else. It's expensive, but peace of mind costs money!

yeah I think ill give the colder plugs a go as some seem to use them, and well I only just serviced it with quantum platinum which I get cheap and is apparently the stuff to use in it. but after reading rtechs page they mention about smoking a little after a hard run because the oil has become too thin and it burns it. but they refer to 5w30 burning and the 5w40 being fine. and I believe the quantum is 5w40, so am tempted to try a 5w50 and see how I get on with that too. as for coilpacks, ive been looking for a escuse to get the red R8 packs for ages lol.
