Please can someone help me...I drive a 2012 1.2 TSI...bought it 15 months ago from a used car dealer...since September I've been getting hesitation when car going up incline or overtaking other vehicles. Car does not stop but there's a hesitation sometimes single sometimes multiple and dashboard says restart engine. Had it back to the dealer in Dec and although it happened to the Senior tech guy when he drove it they couldn't find a fault. Got progressively worse so I took it to seat and they couldn't find any fault codes but said I had excessive play in diff bearings and leaking gear box oil and needed to get it sorted ASAP but they didn't think it would fix my stutter/hesitation problem....they were right....last weekend car drove really badly and engine management, abs, stabilisation controls warning lights all came on and dash board dimmed down....brother in law plugged it into diagnostics and it came up with knock sensor1 circuit high input...and engine speed sensor tooth fault....someone please give me an idea as to what this is and is it going to cost me another small fortune TIA....ps my knowledge of cars is 1st-6th gear and putting petrol in it

HT leads are prone to fail on the 1.2tsi. I changed mine when it started to misfire. They run close to the exhaust and turbo so suffer heat soak. You could try changing them. They are only about £30 from Euro car parts for a set.

Does it sound like the chain is rattling when you start it? It's common for Timing chains to stretch on these. Mine was toast at 24k. I put the latest revision genuine chain, pads and tensioner on and it's been great ever since.

A stretched chain can put the timing out if it's really stretched. If it gets too loose it will jump a tooth and then it can end up making the pistons hit the valves which is mega bad news.

How many miles has it done?

All great advice above. Change the spark plugs too, sometimes they can cause a misfire under heavy load and the engine management won't realise always realise there's a fault like it would if the coil pack was failing.
