Is it an involved job to change the cooler, can it be done on a driveway on the ramps?
I wouldn't be looking to spend a fortune so any recommendations for a setup that will just fit in place of the standard one?

So the two main options I see to retain a standard fit and a straight swap are, the airtec stage 1 for around £500 with pipework or the S3 intercooler with alloy end tanks with the corresponding intercooler pipes for around £400? Would both do for a stage 1 remap. Any other recommendations ?

Having inspected hose and intercooler, It doesn't look like either is worn. What appears to be the issue is that the spring clip doesn't seem to be sitting across one of the lugs on the hose. The clip is seated correctly and is holding the bottom lug but it seems way off at the top. Is this a poor design of the intercooler or pipe or is there a revised clip as it just isn't doing anything at the top?

Solved!

I can confirm that I have fixed the issue with the car losing power as per first post.
It looks as though a previous owner has attempted to fix the issue with the N/S intercooler hose pushing out and in turn fitted the incorrect spring clip, giving my answer to the post above this one!
The incorrect clip fitted was a 1J0145769G; I have now replaced which the correct clip as fitted to the O/S hose 1J0145769H. For good measure I also cable tied both O/S and N/S hoses to the intercooler to prevent any leakage as the ally lugs wear down on the hoses.

The result... took the car out for a blast and it pulls hard through the revs in every gear with no hesitation! Check the intercooler hose again and lo and behold, there it is still fitted snug into the intercooler with no more oil vapour leaking onto the undertray.
