Hello ladies and gents! super pleased to find this forum to find a wealth of knowledge about SEATs. Anyway, I have watched every review video and read a lot of articles before considering the cupra 280 as my next car. Wife is pregnant and although we have a 2015 Subaru forester that will handle most mule duty, if I need to carry wife and baby in my car it won't work as it's an MX-5 :) I live in Germany and have been scouring the online classifieds for weeks. I found a used 2014 cupra 280 with manual transmission and has the winter packet and the SEAT sound system. My only concern is that it has 45,000 miles. Price is around 15,200 pounds. The used car dealer (not VAG dealer) has good ratings and they offer a 1 year warranty but we all know that those warranties are a bit dodgy. The car has only had one owner and from the pictures looks mint. What questions should I be asking the dealer? Will ask if it has been servicebook maintained but what other Cupra or SEAT specific questions should I be asking? Do we have anyone with high mileage cupras here? Thanks and hopefully I will be joining you guys as a Cupra owner!

I have a 2014 280 and love it but only got 20k on the clock, from this and other sites the things i would be looking out for are:

Tyres - even in standard mode there is a lot of power on the front so check condition and tread as good ones are not cheap.

Take it for a drive - Leons have a reputation for rattles and squeaks (I dont have any but a lot do) so take it out for a drive and listen for strange noises / rattles

Service history - basic stuff but these are powerful engines and its very important for longevity that oil changes have been done on time

Front seats I have seen a few post's recently where the white stripe material has split so check it out.

Front Lights - A few people have been saying that the inside of the front lights is getting a covering in dust http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=439889

Make sure all the various buttons work (if it's like mine it has adaptive cruise control which uses the radar and thats expensive to replace) including stuff like the Cupra/Sport/Comfort/User Defined mode settings.

Lastly check to see if its had a new windscreen as all the sensors have to be reset (from memory) if a new one is fitted.

Again check the alloys the diamond cut look great new but do suffer over time (I replaced mine) so check condition.

They are great cars and give you a lot of fun for the money.

Also check rear lamps for condensation and cracking as its very common and they are not cheap if not covered under warranty.

The Cupra seems to be solid mechanically but the build quality is not so good. I'm at 20k now. It's also a well behaved comfortable cruiser on the motorway.

I've had a few niggles. The trim rattle is a pain in mine (SC body) I feel like a pest returning it to the dealer then new rattles appear from elsewhere! It's nowhere close to a Golf for quality, otherwise it's a superb car for the cash.
