I bought a Mk1 Cupra last month, got it for cheap. Needed a few things looked at but hoping to make it my weekend/show car as they seem to be a rare car to find in good shape and modified in Ireland. Hoping to be using this forum to up my knowledge and get advice on any help I may need along the way!

Well you've landed at the right place, we have a fair few MK1 people here.

You'll have to get some pictures up when you get a chance we love being nosey here haha

What plans do you have and what needs doing?

Cheers

Well I feel like the car was more rescued than bought, meaning the man I got it off seemed to have came across it for cheap from a friend and gave it abuse for the month or two he owned it before he couldn't afford the petrol. Judging by the receipts it looks like someone completely upgraded the engine, new piping, pod filter, front mount intercooler out the bumper, r8 coils and apparently a hybrid turbo. The man I bought it from reckoned it was 240 bhp but I was skeptical. He had blown the exhaust off the manifold with the antilag limiter it has also. So first got the exhaust reattached but it is a De-Catted straight through and will need to be made far quieter for my liking and probably the authorities. It then began to not boost properly the day I was leaving it to be dyno'd and the map checked to make sure it wasn't mapped by a cowboy. So a week passed and after a heavy bill for replacement of the air flow reg then a few dyno runs the printout came back with the stock 180bhp (AUQ engine) so basically I have a stock power car with all the supporting mods of a map. Currently getting it prepared for the irish nct (mot). It needs some tlc but so far have to say I really like the car. I will get some pictures up soon also.

Welcome fellow mk1er! I had an auq that had been mapped stage 1 at 210. So with the hardware that you have id say you're looking at a fair bit more. Enjoy

Yeah it seems like the mods were done for more power but the only extra is the limiter. Wouldn’t want to push it too hard as I like the engine not blown up haha

Nice looking car mate

Thanks, the piping is a bit funky so its making the intercooler lopsided at the front. and its also blocking a strut bar from going in so may have to sort that.

Hi there.
Another mk1 saviour, result.
Few of us left.
Nice car. Good choice.
I had a Facelift Cupra for 10 years, put 100,000 on the clock
Beasted it non stop and was still tight and fresh when it hit 165000 miles.
Great car.
Now in an R. that I saved from a tatty life.
Sounds like yours has decent spec.
If it’s running smoothly on a hybrid, you should take it to a decent mapper over your way if there is one? Someone who is a 1.8T specialist.
Alternatively drive down to see Bill @ Badger5.
Be good to see what they can produce for you as you seem to have decent mods attached.

Badger5 Custom Map + TIP,
3”Custom exhaust, FMIC, Bosh 550’s, BC Coilovers, ARB’s +loads more.

Yeah looking forward to getting it mapped because the car pulls far better than my daily 170bhp and I wouldn’t the cupra is at standard power. I’m wondering what kind of value they’ll hold in 10 years time.

Welcome!
Snap...we have the same car (except you have tidier goodies) Mine is all black..wheels & badge, but you have a nice ride there. I rescued mine from a cowboy & I'm still paying for it! :)
Yea sad that someone has put in the work only for someone else to let the car get into a bad way. That being said there’s more pride in fixing it up for me. Also it came at a far nicer price!

In ten years time it’ll be worth About a fiver.
Unless yours is the last car standing. Then maybe about 10 grand.
