im looking at either getting a HID kit or upgrading the bulbs but.............

1 if i get a HID kit and just replace the main beam bulbs will i need to change the yellow side lights or will the hid kit blend the yellow out

or

is it just worth payig to get all new bulbs

best place to get some hid from??

not sure if ebay is a good option for kits heard good and bad news about some kits from there

problem is, as of next month HIDs that are incorrectly fitted are illegal - and they are getting hot on it too!

id opt for a bulb upgrade, i recently (lastnight) changed both my H1 and H7 bulbs to Ring Xenonultima 120% and they are better than OEM, but not amazing!
so i think ill try Osram Nightbreakers plus - apparently they are the bees knees, and elbows!

or HIDs that are fitted correctly. but i dont think there is a complete conversion kit available.
and LED sidelights would look good too - i need some myself.

i was gunna go for the HID H7R these are suppose to be brilliant and stops all glare which would be better for not getting clocked.

i heard the osrams are quite expensive though arnt they?

ebay and amazon are the place to go for bulbs ;)

nothing is expensive on there.

i shalll have a look around, just a noob question what are the bulbs i need h7 for main beam?
side lights?
fogs?

night breakers are amazing they defo get my vote!

I managed to get some canbus friendly LED Sidelights from eBay and they're quite nice :)

I'm considering buying some Osram Night Breaker bulbs just to pop in for my MOT in future. My HID Kit seems to have gone down the pan a bit...only had it two months.

most HID packages are pants. another reason i decided not to go for them - regardless of them not passing an MOT its not like id fail my own car. but they are pants.

i just ordered LED side lights, hope they look good as some on google images and youtube B-)
9 SMD LEDs should do well enough.

A proper HID kit isn't 'pants', the difference compared to the standard candles is like night and day!

a "conversion" kit, is worth sweet FA.
it is hasnt come from the factory with them, its not worth the time and money putting them on.

I, and other people who have installed them will beg to differ.

Your car didn't come out of the factory with Ring Xenon Ultima's for a reason too, you'll be replacing them within the year anyway when they fail.

Time: ~30 mins
Money: ~£140 HIDS4U kit

Well worth it in my opinion, huge improvement over the standard halogens.

kit are illegal know, the only is to fit a full headlamp, you all so need headlamp wash / headlamp levelling system

from gov web site

Lighting
Products on the lens or light source that obviously reduce the light's intensity or change its colour will become a reason for failure – applies to front/rear position lamps, registration plate lamps, stop lamps, rear fog and direction indicators,
Headlight requirements are updated to take account of the particular characteristics of High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps.
HID headlights can cause dazzle if they are dirty or aimed too high so car manufacturers must fit headlamp cleaning and levelling systems. A car will fail if a mandatory headlamp cleaning or levelling system is missing, doesn't work or is obviously defective.
Vehicles fitted with aftermarket HID systems must also be fitted with properly working washer and levelling systems.
If a headlamp bulb is not seated correctly the resulting beam pattern will be indistinct and this will result in a test fail.

Don't get me wrong, I was well happy with the colour and the coverage I was getting from them when I first bought the kit - but it seems now they're not covering as much ground and the light is getting closer to the car....rather than lighting up much ahead (if you get what I mean)

Might just get some decent, bright white bulbs if I can find any. Or go for a proper conversion kit.

Will you drive with no MOT then?

I put a H7R HID kit in my FR but wasn't too chuffed with it overall. Even with the bits of extra coating on the bulb - the 'R' in H7R means they work OK in standard reflectors, in theory - the beam pattern was pretty rubbish. The choice was between lowering the dipped beam so as not to blind oncoming traffic and actually lighting up enough of the road to be able to see where you're driving - having both was not an option.
I wouldn't buy another HID kit now as, even if it was great, I couldn't be bothered having to swap it in and out at MOT time... not enough benefit for the faff and cost.

If your car doesn't have OE bi-xenons, one of the legal bulb upgrades from a major brand is the way forward IMHO.

Mine did this too, albeit over a longer period. When I took the kit out to check, I found that the metallic coating on the 'bulb' (which is supposed to reflect the light off one side so it works in a standard reflector) had started to crack and peel off the glass in several places. As it got worse over time, so did the beam pattern/coverage. Mine was supposedly an 'Ultimate' kit from a highly recommended seller, too... I don't think any of the kits are much good tbh.
