Hi, My radiator fan aint kickin in at all. Thought I'd just change the fan as its easy enougth - but was quoted £110 !!. Should check the thermostat - but very awkward to get too (unlike the time I did my Golf Mk II) and the nuts are very rusty so I'd rather try everything else first..... anyway I've been told to test the fan by bypassing the switch so the fan is permanently running - if it is actually working that is, then it may just be the switch I ned to replace.... How do I do this without electrocuting myself? The are 3 cables going into the fan. I remember someone doing this to my golf - but it was years ago and can't remember. And help would be great - thanks.
(Cordoba 1.8 GLX M reg). PS. Fuse ok.

get a bit of wire, with the core exposed at either end,

if your cordoba has 2 3pin plugs, take the one off the radiator itself, you will need to bridge the red-red/black wires. you carn't bridge the plug on the fan itself because it runs the power to the fan.

Nice one thanks - did remember last night that yeah it has to be the radiator end, I was thinking it was at the fan end i had to bridge! But as I have 3 pin type - helpful to know which wire to cross. Thanks again - will try tonight - really hope it's that switch and not the thermostat. NOw the only problem I've got is how to stop the ringing in my ears.... disconnected the neg to battery in case fan came on while i was twiddling and alarm went off - disconnected live also to stop it, but a secondary alarm kicked in - very very loud and ear splitting. GUess thats the point (lol)

Fan working ok - all pipes hot (thermo ok then) - so gonna replace the switch this weekend. Just thought this morning though - watching temp gauge get higher - what is it that sends the info to the dasboard temp needle - is there another sensor that does this - hope it's not the switch as that would imply it's ok????
