Driving over the hill near my home yesterday I entered a dense patch of fog in my 2018 1.4 FR, so I switched on the lights plus front and rear fog lights.

However, it blew my mind 30 seconds after I left the fog patch (just as I was reaching for the light switch) when the display binged and asked me to 'please turn off rear fog light'.

The car doesn't have auto lights or any camera fitted, it's a bog standard FR with no extras - so how did it know the fog has lifted?

Anyone able to please explain the magic?

Wow, that's awesome! Maybe it's got something like the rain sensor for the autowipers. That always marvelled me. Although it never seems to get the wiper speed right for me. LOL.

Sure someone on here commented on the rear fog due to the speed they were going. You are going to fast for it to be foggy, switch off the rear light, lol

Oh... and the magic is spoilt. LOL.

Yeah mine did the same, but the warning came on to switch the fog light off when I came to a stop, assuming to stop me from blinding the person behind me (if there was someone behind me)?

Could do with it here too, Lou. Seems many are just idiots the whole world over

thank god! this is the future ) all the morons who put on fog lights the moment someone uses as much as an E-cigarette and leave them on for weeks...
good point about the speed.. those that think they have to put their fog lights on yet still bomb along.. - then its simply not foggy enough to warrant fog lights.
(although what is this magic speed?)

Seems to be growing worse. Loads of cars out today with sidelights and fogs. And visibility was fine all day.

I think I saw somewhere 40 MPH

50 kmh (30 mph) is the legal max speed in Germany with fog lights on (probably similar in other countries on the continent) - the country settings in VCDS on older models used to reflect what is displayed on the MFD.

A similar feature, circa Mk5 golf vintage was to switch the headlights on above 150 kmh if I recall if lights were in ‘auto’ position.
