I went into the newly opened Seat dealership in Aberdeen and was very surprised when I was told that their hourly rate is £65 & VAT per hour!

Thought that was the kind of money the likes of Mercedes or BMW dealers could away with charging.

local bmw here is £95 per hour service and £125 for diagnostic work

both local vauxhall specialist and a seperate vw/audi one are £55 per hour

so i'd say £65 main dealer isnt bad

I suppose its not too bad, they must all be making a fortune.

Think about it, the wages for the tech that will be doing your car is say £12/hr, but the standard 'cost to company' for an employee is 2.5x the wage paid, so we're up to £30/hr, add on overheads, cost of the building, insurances, loan cars and you're not far off.

I bet there's even a little profit in there too.

We charge £55-63+VAT an hour, depending on the car. We are the cheapest main dealer in Northampton, but then again we're Kia!

Northampton BMW by comparison charge £100+VAT an hour, and get it as London dealers are over £150+VAT/hour!

I had my 10k service done at a Seat Specialist.

0.9 hours labour = £35.91
Parts = £8.15
Fully synthetic oil = £29.70
VAT = £12.91

Total Paid = £86.67

For a 10k service at a main dealer I was quoted £220 + an additional £35 for fully synthetic oil!

So working it backwards:

£255 - £86.67 = £168.33

I would assume that as the parts are the same & are standard prices, the additional £168.33 is for less than an hour's labour - bearing in mind the labour charge is already included in the Seat Specialists price!!!

The way I see it, as far as main dealer servicing goes you're paying over £200 per hour for labour!!
