Very true, but if I end up forking out ~£25k for a damn good example of an S3 (DSG, all the extras) with lowish mileage and then have to spend £2-3K on taking it to Stage 2+ which is where I would want it to be then that's a lot more than £7k!

Yes, resale would be lousy on the Cupra which is part of the reason for my self-imposed dilemma - do I use it now as deposit (in part) for something newer (which I am tempted to do) or do I take the bold step and make the Cupra into a "one-off" special.

My opinion - converting something to AWD is something you do yourself for the self satisfaction you'll get from what you've created. Paying someone to do it is no accomplishment

You could of gone and bought a car with 350hp.... But would that of been anywhere near as much fun and exciting as modding a 240 up to that? Probably not

Personally, I'd save the money. Get an RS3, roughly same power your at now already with AWD. Then have all the fun again squeezing more power out of the engine!! Before you know it your looking at sub 4 second 0-60's :D

But I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever decision you make

Buying an S3 is simpler and cheaper and you'll get more back at the end.

There are 2 mk2's I know of with the 4x4 conversion now and the price to do would indeed be 5+ grand as stated above.

Very true, if I had the garage space/lift then I would certainly consider doing at least the bulk of the work myself as it is a great project to try. Whether I would have the will to see it through is another thing though! Plus I would have to get another cheap car to run around in while it was off the road - don't think taking a couple of weeks holiday would do the trick!

The money (if it is £5-7k) is not really a problem - it is just a case of weighing up the pros and cons between the options. I am inclined to agree that the S3 (or RS3 if I can perform a miracle with my other half :handbags: and her view on my buying expensive cars...) and then modding that is likely the better bet.

If I had won the Euro millions last Friday then I would have defo kept the Cupra and built a garage to do the work myself as I would not be doing a day job [B)], but as that didn't happen alternatives need to be found!
 
Let me put a different spin on this....

U will own ur car, so no monthly payments.
If u trade it in now u will likely take a knock on the trade in price and lose money.
U will pay well in excess of 20k over say the next 3 years for a newish golf r or s3, plus interest of another couple of thousand.
Then wen u trade that in in 3 years u will lose a damn site more than 6-7k.
So of u have the cash now and want to do it, nows the time. Enjoy that for a couple of years whilst saving the monthly amount that u would have spent on a car, then you will have a huge deposit for ur next car, saving a fortune in interest :)
Best of both worlds I think :lol:

1. the rear end of an R32 Golf plus Drive Shafts.
2. the Gearbox from an S3.
3. S3 Suspension due to weight.
4. Turbo Back Exhaust.
5. A Welder.

if i won Euro million i would get an RS3 and move everything to the cupra for a laugh. Interior, running gear, engine... etc
 
I have looked In to it as I am looking to do it to my car it will cost me about 5grand to have it done but there are some ppl over in Europe that have just taken an s3 engine and running gear which dos not cost as much but then u need to find and s3 lol

Someone to code everything in, add electrical control components, adjustments to floor, fuel tank and spare wheel well.

Thats where the main cost is.
 
This is something I would love to do, but with talk the mk3 Cupra having AWD, I'll be saving my money and put it toward that.
Seen the clips on Youtube of Mygel's monster, doing a Gallardo / 996 Turbo. Makes me want to convert mine everytime (money allowing).

Dont hold your breath, was at Media day the other day had a chat with a few of the SEAT people in the circle and that's not been mentioned

Something else has been mentioned nothing to do with its drive train but im not saying what, just wait and see

If you could get a AWD Cupra... How would they sell the Golf R and S3? Yeh you will get badge snobs that wouldn't buy it but most people would buy the Cupra instead
 
Im sure the mk3 cupra is going to have dsg as an option but not 4wd. It was mentioned in evo magazine last month iirc. Obviously we'll have to wait and see, and hope :lol: I'll be putting my name on the v5 of a new cupra r for sure if it has 4wd.
