How often do you top up coolant?

Hi guys, so, I have noticed that I am having to top up my coolant every month, around 200ml. Its not a lot, and not really a problem, but wondering if this is normal, or should I be checking for leaks? Thanks in advance!

Yeah I'd have a look for a leak if I were you.it's very rare that I would have to top mine up.

I'm now on the 2nd Leon, first was a 1.6 16V, had that over 2 years and never once topped the coolant up. Now on a 1.9TDI, only had this 4 months but never topped this up yet either.

Im the same as you just a lil every month

I tried radweld but it came back after stopping for 2 months

I know its the big pipe on the right of the Rad as ive seen a wet patch and had the bumper off.

I think there are some normal leak areas just have a search

I think mine may be the rad as when I got the car I know the bumper isn't the best and has a mesh grille instead if the black plastic one and I reckon the previous owner ran it with no grill for a while and a stone has hit the rad

Obviously if it needs topping up, it's leaking as they are a sealed unit.
Look for crystallisation around joints.

2 leons, more than 12 years combined ownership and only ever topped it up the one time, but not due to any loss, just to get rid of beeps on cold mornings.

I have to top up once a month but that's due to a small whole in my radiator

i cant believe how many people appear to live with leaks...

the only answer to this thread is you should never need to top it up as it should be a sealed system.

you might want to check your head gasket lol!!! either that or you actually have a pipe hanging off

10,000 miles since June not a drop of coolant I'd check for a leak TBH

Head gasket has gone lol. Hopin head hasn't cracked, what's cracked head symptoms? It drives beautifully still.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but thought I would mention the cause of my mysterious leak in case it helps anyone in the future....it was my secondary water pump!! But thanks to the lads at TMC this is being sorted....
