Have searched all about maf sensors but cannot find out how to clean it. Is it easy and what do you use to clean it?

I have just got my 110 tdi and dont really know how it should drive. i am noticing that as i accelerate sometimes there feels like there is no turbo happening. the turbo might give a little kick but then tails off to nothing. other times it feels much better. its intermittent.

Does this sound like the maf problem i have read about so much on here?
If i cant clean it where can i get one on the cheap?

Sorry to be such a great big NUBE!!

isopropyl alcohol from maplins thats the best and only liquid to use....... take the maf out of the housing and then get a clear plastic bag put the maf in then completely submerge the maf sensor in the isopropyl for 10 mins then take it out and let it dry naturally hey presto jobs done and the maf will be as good as new

You did search for the words cleaning + maf didn't you

i did search using those words. maybe i did something wrong. it seemed to bring up stuff about mafs but not cleaning. sorry for being a newb but i am newb to this. also was not sure if the maf is the problem hence the rest of the questions about the performance. do you think it is likely it is the maf sensor then?

Yes Maplins is an electrical/electronics shop.

Have a feeling IPA is similar to brake cleaner, not sure if the latter is more potent though. I'd stick to IPA that's sold for cleaning electrical contacts and stuff.

You might want to check the screws holding the MAF in, sometimes you need security-type Torx bits (with a small hole in the end) to get the damn thing out. I did manage once with a pair of molegrips but I can't recommend it :)

have ordered some IPA from ebay. getting some dielectric grease for the contacts on plug as well. apparently this helps too. have looked at the screws they are six point security torx which i have. hope this is gonna work.
car was ok today but shudders a bit under acceleration. is this a symptom of a maf issue??

The easiest way to find out if it is the maf or not is to unplug it and go for a drive. Once you've done that, report back on here as to whether it's got better/worse or no change.
