There are two pins / expanding plugs in the top of the grill, use a small flat head screw driver to pop the centre of the pins out (they lift out with a bit of coaxing!) then take out the pin itself. Then pull the top of the grill towards you gently as the grill slightly sits under the lip of the slam panel. Once it's out from under the panel push the whole grill in and gently pull up . It takes a bit of work but it will pop up. There are basically two small clips half way down the back on the sides which hold it the the bumper be careful but if you break one it's not the end of the world. It will still hold tight what you put back together. If you want to then split the chrome surround from the grill itself you need to go round each if the lugs which hold the chrome outer the grill. Gently use a small flat head in the lugs gap, twist and then pull the outer away from the centre grill. Once you have done all of them and they are seperate, you can then spray or vinyl just the outer ring.

Thanks. Will go try that out and hope i remove it without breaking anything.

Would you know by any chance how to remove the complete interior roof light fitting. the 1 light refuses to go off and think the clip is broken

It's been covered many times on here.

If search first, you'll usually get your answer quicker :)

My mk4 golf was crazy on and off all the time, depending on how hard you slammed the door. My interior light issue was a micro switch / circuit issue, but in the doors rather than in the roof. Haven't taken the light fittings out before but assume get your fingers behind it and gently pull it down.
