Hybrid killed my box...

As says in the title. Travelling back from jabba yesterday had the map done after about 200 miles must have blown the seal leaked all the oil and seized.
she was running awesome aswell am a bit gutted to be honest.

Now I have had a search and people say the stock box is ok for the power and some ppl dissagree. Any one no for definate?? If it's ok what's next a recon or second hand box?
Also who's best for the recon any one no what backdraft charge cheers people

What power are you running? Have you got an peloquins diff? Std box should be ok for around 330bhp. Ive killed gears on 360bhp and yesterday i killed 5th gear with cryo treated gears, but with 400 + bhp. At backdraft it all depends on whats really gone inside the box. If you need us to take the box out for you too or not. Best bet is to give us a call tmoz and we can go through the options.

Oh ok ideal am running 280 I don't think when I had my clutch done there was a new gasket put on and that's what's gone on it and leaked all the oil out. How much is the diff? I shall give you a call today at some point it is just a rebuild as I live in plymouth and the car won't move so will need to send it off you you.

blown a seal or diff pin punched its way out?

very unusual for seal to loose all oil.. not unusual for diff pins to come out and punch thru the gearbox casing.

Not if it's got a hole in it...

I would recon a reconditioned box would always be a better option than putting another used box in. You don't know what condition used ones are in really.

Sorry i ment having mine re built or will a stock box be fine been offered a recon box for 425 plus delivary. Obviously I can't have mine rebuilt if there is a hole in it but if not how much are they to rebuild??

Not sure how much buddy. Backdraft would give you a decent price.

LSD on hybrid power is a good move imo. They go for ~£700 brand new

Just the LSD. Expect a big labour bill to remove the box and fit it

Been quoted 150 to change it. Am bit gutted it's gone after spending 2000 for the hybrid and it only worked for around 2 hrs. But skint after I all and mite just get a recon box if my can't be rebuilt and leave the diff for another day. How long before a recon box goes or should it be fine with that horse power??

I've not heard of boxes going on hybrid power before. Alex at Backdraft knows all about breaking gearboxes though so he's the person to speak to

Well it's no good can't find a recon any where any one no if a polo gti box will fit. Or a box from any other car? Latest is there is a hole in the box the size of a hand. So need a casing at the very least any one help ?

the polo boxes are very weak, so even if they did fit, i really wouldn't bother

I've not heard of boxes going on hybrid power before.

It's not a matter of power, it's poor design of the diff. I did the same on a mk2 golf with 110bhp. The diff comes apart and exits through the casing.

Managed to get a recon box that they have "sorted the diff problem" on. All in all 730 maybe cheaper if they can use any thing off the old box. Think it's from 247 spares
