I am thinking of going hybrid with my PD130 FR, and I am trying to get an idea of cost. I have seen a few hybrid turbo's advertised for around the £550 mark, however to install these turbos do I need to buy new maifolds or TIP's, or is it a case of a straight swap of the turbo's, and having a new map installed?

The turbo will bolt straight on mate.

As mentioned though, its best to change the oil and filter while you're on, and also installing a new oil feed pipe is a good idea.

Gaskets can be re-used (they fit) but again good to get new ones.

£550 seems cheap for a hybrid turbo though??

I'd agree with that I ain't found one for my Cupra tdi cheeper than 700 but I have found that getting the old unit on ur car Hybrided is the cheapest way to do it

The price I started this thread off with was £550 for a hybrid turbo, however I have now seen that it will be about £700 best price...

Dirty Torque are offering a stage 2 hybrid for £550, with an additional charge of £150 to cover the cost of a Garrett turbo as my standard (PD130) will be a KKK unit which they are not interested in.

There is also an ebay seller called gti1000bhp who offers stage 1 hybrids for £550, but again asks for £200 if don't send him your turbo as a part ex. He doesnt stipulate if it has to be a Garrett or not.

I am going to hold out until next year before doing anything as I have a holiday to pay for in January first of all. I would have to budget around £2k for the turbo, map clutch and SMF conversion, so my other thought would be to sell my Ibiza and pay the extra for an already sorted stage 2 LCR in the £4-5K region, or even stretch to the current Leon Cupra...

depends whats on the car and what hybrid you're fitting.

My md376 wasnt a straight fit for the kkk rubbish that was on before:

TIP fits fine
lower boost hose fits fine
Compressor housing needed clocking to fit
egr was removed as the outlet on the exhaust manifold sits differently
Downpipe fits fine
Oil line fits fine
Oil drain fits fine

Turbo dynamics do specifiy that a new oil feed is fitted and that an oil service is carried out when you fit the unit. I primed mine by unplugging the injector loom and cranking over until oil readily came from the disconnected turbo oil drain.

All this based on a 2008 BLT engine when fitting a pd150 (MD376 is this case) Hybrid.
