Hybrid Turbo?

Not sure what turbo i had fitted to my asz engined ibiza, but the work that allard did to it was fantastic, i had the vt2 setup and boy was it good. As for allards knowledge and infomration on stuff its second to none imho. I had 2 hyrbid turbos blow on me, and both times, allards were fantastic and got it sorted for me asap.

Thanks I hope this is the case if not I'll have to find the extra money and go with the TurboDynamics. APS said they'll have a look at it when they receive the turbo and let me know if there are any complications.

Thanks TripleD I don't doubt they know their stuff and hope it's as good as you say it is. Did your VT2 come with the manifold as WW_VRS has mentioned?

Allards VT2 is a hybrid GT1749V from the PD150/160 engine. The turbo and manifold is molded into one piece, since this manifold is a stock item that has been rebored there is no reason that the turbo/manifold should not fit along with oil feed lines etc. PD150/160 have a Garret turbo and PD130 have a smaller KKK turbo but both turbos are molded with the same manifold. The turbo it self might need a slight rotation in the housing but if APS cannot do a simple thing like that i would seriously take your car somewhere else. Is APS ment to be mapping this turbo for you and why didn`t you just let Allards fit and map the turbo if you have any worries?
 
I am pretty convinced APS will know how to rotate the turbo housing, as they had to do the same on mine when they fitted my TD hybrid for me :)

APS don't do remaps themselves, they use an ex-AMD guy who is based at their premises, superchips, or whoever you like from what I recall :)
 
My advice would be to let Allard fit the turbo and do the mapping as they know best when it comes to fitting and mapping their own turbos.

I was going to get my mapping on the VT5 done by Jabba, but now going back to Allard which is what i should have done in the first place lol.

mine is going to be done in the next couple of weeks so will update after i get a power run.
 
If it wasn't for Allards being so far away then I probably would have had them fit and map the turbo but I have every faith in what APS can do as they've always done right with my car. It was only from the conversation one of them had with someone at Allard that didn't fill them with confidence but I'm sure all will be well and they do know what they're doing I just wanted to find out for myself. Like WW_VRS they've done good work with his and maps they do are done by an ex AMD guy who works from their premises. I was there when they remapped a couple of TT's and the owners then were more than impressed with the work they done so I'm sure when they've finished with mine it'll be great. Thanks for all you comments so far guys you're more than helpful as always. I'll put up a little review of how it is when it's all done.

Mike knows more about this than i do, but when remapping these turbos i understand it is important for the mapper to know the basic compressor map of the turbo used in order to be able to remap it properly. APS will not have this info as they dont know the turbo spec or basic compressor maps.
Might not be so relevant with the VT2 but it is with the bigger ones.

Just a thought.
 
Mapping diesel cars is totally different to mapping petrol cars as Jabba found with Jasons car. Jabba are one of the best companies in England for mapping petrol cars but they fail when it came to Jasons hybrid diesel. Hope everything turns out OK for you though mate.
 
I know they've worked on a number of diesels and have an A3 and Golf PD130 themselves that they've played with so I'm sure they're capable when it comes to diesels. However I completely understand where you're coming from and appreciate the comments you've made. I'm sure all will go well and will post when it's finished, fingers crossed that'll be Friday.

Update: Car's back

Hi all,

Just wanted to quickly say I got my car back today after nearly 5 weeks off the road (due to Skoda UK messing about) :D

As I had to pay for it to get repaired I've had the following done by APS:

BMC panel filter (as my green was in a mess), Sachs organic clutch, Allard VT2 hybrid turbo fitted and remapped. On top of these upgrades general maintenance was also carried out like 40k service and new front pads and disks which brought my total just over the £2k mark.

Anyway the car is a different beast altogether now, the power delivery is far smoother and there's lots of it right through the rev range. I've not pushed it at the moment as they've told me to give it around 500 miles to settle in and if after this time I feel I need more power they'll look at the map again once the clutch has had a bit of wear as they didn't want to give it too much too soon being brand spanking new. I'll post more after the next week as I'm going travelling for a week and will have put lots of miles on and had a real go in it :D
 
Cheers mate so am I. It's so tempting to give it some now but I wanna do it properly so I'm being good and running it in, put 350 miles on it today and should be 900 by the weekend :)
