Returning to your original point, I can see where you're coming from, but it didn't take me long to get the sequence lodged in my head - and let's be honest, you only use the lever a couple of times every trip, so it's very peripheral isn't it? Maybe you have some form of cognitive issue that makes it hard for you to accept something as minor as PRND, with D requiring a pull-back?

Again, I am just venting a peeve, I know where it comes from and why "it is what it is". I just don't agree, in particular for my case where all I have is a R-N-D shifter.

Firstly I should add I dont have a strong view on this but I spend a lot of time with my car at the track and one of the things you have to do is not put on your breaks but put the gearbox into P so you dont get pads stuck to the disks so without Park that will be an issue.

As I said before in the very near future all of this stuff is going to change and all the nanny stuff will be electronically installed and with the latest UN Security protocols (SFD2 To VAG Guys) that means currently it will be difficult to turn off. Not a good thing in my view.

But I fully understand your perspective and its your right to moan about it, Me I moan about new cars and not being able to adapt them like I did on my current (wont be replaced till it dies) car.

I've never really thought about it too much, or indeed at all. It's 2nd nature to me now just to pull it in the correct direction for the direction of travel I require. I do get your point though as somethings are like that. I had a hob once that had the top and bottom controls "reversed" compared to the rings. I drove mad and I never really got out the habit of pressing the wrong one.

I understand, thank you. I know that "the web" gets all the standardization and safety justifications. But for me, it's a very weak argument.

What might be a very weak reason for a single individual, could very well be a generally accepted and well-established rule for the vast majority of users. In this particular case Standardization is the key reason - as you found yourself after a brief search.
Is "avoiding millions of potential accidents" (caused by drivers that confused R with D after years of automatic gearbox driving) a better argument for you?
