That's amazing!

How the hell do you get those figures? I can only just get 37mpg on a long motorway run.

Si

I go the 303/A3/M3/M25 to just before Dartford got the car 1 week before Xmas and done just under 4K probably about 8/9 trips to London and back with Football and visiting my son. Last trip down i did 420miles there and back, filled up before i went and when i got back, 39.84l which i make 47.86mpg...

I dont go mad on the trip and just as well because i saw 8 cars pulled over by unmarked police on the journey home last time. I do however like to fly round all those dual carriageway roundabouts and beat the pants off of everything (almost)... Usually takes me 3.15 hrs door to door so thats an average of nearly 60 (not bad with the tractors and lorries on the 303!)

I seriously think i have got a duff car cos not only do i get good mpg but i dont get wet windows and i wouldnt even know where the DPF light is.... but i just know saying that is going to come back and haunt me!!!!

Im running the car on the factory 17s too cos im still looking around for a set of 18s that i like (didnt like the factory option ones...)

I ran a 2.3l petrol Mazda 6 before the FR and used to average 25 around town and 29 on a trip to London so that gives you a kind of driving style comparison i guess....

Is the Rolling Road thing still going ahead, can you PM me cos i can't find the thread now

& then look at the price of it, not quite FR £££ is it @ £24k (plus extras like wheels & glass) :headhurt:

That price difference is at least £10k when you add the goodies that the FR has

http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/RoadTestsHistory/BMW-1-Series-123d-M-Sport/229175/

123d SE
£24,350.00

18" rims £460
Cruise control £180
Blue Tooth £535
Met paint £440
cup holder £30

etc etc etc..........

Im not saying its a comparable car, just think the engine power and decent MPG is very impressive. Makes VW engines look a decade older.

Crude but powerfull sums the PD engines up, I hope these new common rail engines VW group are using will filter down to Seat sooner rather than later.... Although, I to say, I miss hearing the turbo wooosh from my departed TDi Cupra....

I have driven now 11000 km's (6835 miles) with an average of 6.53 liters/100 km (= ~43.25 miles/gallon(UK). I'm quite satisfied with it.

I thought the TDI engines in the new FR are the new VW diesels? I thought PD was long gone too.

ummmm, now you mention it, i dunno..... I'm pretty sure the current 2.0 140bhp TDi isn't common rail and therefore a PD type(?), dont know about the FR TDi's though... Anyone?

I think the PD system was canned because it was noisey and expensive, even though it was powerfull and very efficient. Im sure all the 2.0 TDI are all common rail, even the lesser 1.9 found in the later models.

Im still torn. Do I get the new FR 170 or do I keep my mk1 Cupra 150? Seems like an expensive change for a bigger rev range, more torque and less MPG. I got a sweet 56mpg average on 650 mile trip down south.

This thread might help your understanding of the 2litre diesel engines found in the leon; or it might confuse!

The engine in the FR is not the new VW diesel engine which Andy refers. There is a new common rail engine already out and not in the SEAT group - a 2litre (143bhp). This is available in the new A4, the A3 cab and is likely to be in the facelifted A3 later on this year, instead of the old 140. Press reports refer to a 168bhp version of this engine to be with us within a year.

The engine is apparently much more refined than the old style engines currently in VAG vehicles, which lets be honest should not be that difficult to achieve, given todays technology.

Thanks for the link, an interesting read. Things are clearer now.

As I only 10,000 miles per year, Im thinking about the FR TFSI now. Esp with Diesel 7p per litre more than Petrol around here. Is the TFSI any good?
