hi wonder if anyone can help, im trying to locate the iat sensor on my 2002- ibiza 1.2s. can anyone suggest where it is? the is a sensor located on the throttle body when you remove the engine cover? is it that one? does this model even have an iat? if not i heard the coolant temp sensor is the equivalent ?

hope you can help. many thanks.

if you are looking for it to fit the small cheap ebay +20% power chip then don't

all you will succeed in doing is melting your cat froom overfueling

i just wanted to try it, so i can have a decent car for a day :p get so frustrated reading about peoples amazing remaps! really want to get a tdi :( not even an fr maybe just the pd 100 and start some light modding. just thought id have a mess about with this module for a day :(

well the £5 you just spent is likely to give you 10% tops in numbers = 6bhp and end up causing possibly £300 of damage if not a lot more but if you 'REALLLY' want that 6bhp at that risk then just say AYE and ill show you where it is :)

but to be honest as above just don't its gonna be far off the 'decent' you are looking for sorry but patience grasshopper - one day :):)

this will explain it a little better than my pidgeon english

The "Mod Chips" being sold on ebay as a performace and or economy enhancement for your vehicle are not a performance enhancement in any way and will infact cause your car to run rich and waste fuel.

I will explain - the sellers say the resistor or mod chips should be connected in the IAT or Air Temperaute Sensor circuit. Effectively this changes the signal level output from the sensor indicating to the Engine Control Unit (ECU) that the Air is Colder. Cold air is more dense and therefore has more oxygen so the ECU thinks that the air is colder and squirts more fuel in to burn the extra oxygen. I think we will all agree that in order to get a flamable mix you need three things, Air, Fuel and a spark. The problem with this modification is that the Resistor Chip is giving a false reading to the ECU tricking it into thinking the air is colder, in fact it is not. The ECU thinks it is colder though and squirts more fuel in to burn the increased amount of oxygen. But there is NOT an increased amount of oxygen, the ECU has been tricked, so the extra fuel cannot be burnt because the Oxygen needed to burn the extra fuel is not there.

Car manufacturers spend thousands, no millions of dollars developing efficient engines, if a 1 pence resistor (sold for in excess of £10 on ebay) can really provide the benfits claimed in auctions then they would install it from new, they do not because it is not a performance enhancement and it does NOT give you better economy. If you want better performance then you have to sacrifice economy, you have to REMAP your ECU, change ignition points, increase the air flow, get a turbo or a supercharger, maybe a performace filter. An Air filter and new Exhaust are probably the cheapest/easiest performance enhancement you can make, but even this will only give you about 5 - 10 BHP, for an investment of £400 - over a £1000. Yes, I am afraid nothing comes free in this world.

i really want to be childish and ask you anyways, but i should respect the car!! i need guidance!! its rrp is 39.99, granted i got it for 5 quid, but its not a resistor its an enclosed module thing...not that im trying to convince you :p

how do i say what my car has had done to it? on peoples posts underneath it says about their cars? i dont need it, its all stock (except the k&n panel filter installed this morn in the FREEZING cold!!)

what car you got?

i've got some magic beans here that retail @ $600 but will let a member have them for only $10 each :p and you don't need to try and convince me as you won't, honestly don't bother trying :) as i'm cussing an swearing as usual this time of year in a mk2 2.0 16v Gti but as far as the 'what ya done to the car' routine goes

look under USER CP for a link saying Edit Signature

and experiment :)

oki doke. i wonder if i can ask one more question? as you seem to know a lot lot more than me! i have the engine management light on at the mo, i read the codes and it says cat converter below min threshold, but it has passed the mot emmisions test......the exhaust has no holes or anything so is it the oxygen sensors? and is that expensive to fix? *student* !!! cheers for all this advice by the way. much appreciated :) ppl on here are well helpful

firstly note the code down if you can and then clear/reset and roadtest to see what codes return

something like this example
17579= P1171 Throttle Actuation Potentiometer Sign2. Range/Performance

once we have that we can look at what to test/log etc next and see if we can narrow it down for ya a bit hopefully

don't worry about the mod power thing for a while. all show no go is a lot more satisfying in my eyes to be honest, i'd rather have a tidy spotless euro-look 1.2 than my old beat up pokey mk2 16v anyday, after all who wants to do 100mph everywhere, who can for that matter.

p0420 and ive cleared it 3 maybe 4 times? the garage did too when i asked them, he said see how it goes! i looked it up on the net and the o2 sensors are the only other thing apart from a faulty cat. but it was changed in 2007. so it shouldnt have gone again surely?

cat's rarely just pack up, usually only fail from damage or from melting up due to overfueling and if it's had one already without founding out the cause of the failure it's probably blown another one ?

could be a dodgy dirty sensor from driving miss daisy but ill check the code out

*edit*

No offence my man.
I understand what its like to drive a 1.2
In fact for the past three weeks my cars been at the tuners and I've had to drive a 1.0 Arosa!
My first car was the Ibiza 1.2S and whilst I'll agree its not very powerful the very last thing you want to do is use one of these ebay jobs.

Honestly, You wont gain performance, You'll lose fuel and you'll cause serious damage resulting in potentially an engine swap. You wont gain performance as all the transistor does is request "MORE FUEL" because it tells the engine there's "COLDER AIR"
Sadly as the air isnt colder the fuel doesn't burn correctly and causes serious issues.

I kept my 1.2 100% standard and used my modifying money to put the deposit on a 1.9TDI.
Please.. if you dont want the car and you want to destroy it, Just give it to someone who'll treat it right.

Infact, I'll have it off you because if you put that chip on the car the only place you'll be taking it is to the scrappies.

i feel like im getting told off lol. i love my car. if it will damage it that badly i wouldn't put it on. i look after it :) which tdi did you get after your 1.2? (just lobbed the chip in the bin btw!)

with the last cat they said it was from doin lots of short journeys, well now it does normal ones and a few long motorway stints to get the cat up to right temp like the bloke said. im hoping its a faulty o2 sensor :O if not im goin to be gutted. the tappets are already going i think, used forté top end treatment today so will see how that goes. what is the best diesel to get btw? cant afford to buy/insure a cupra but i want to buy something where i can get more gains from the engine.

1.4tdi, pd130 (1.9T) how long u been driving and how many no claims bonus?

driving 4 years today! weird! 21 yrs old this is my 2nd year of my own insurance, had a quote for a 1.9tdi sport (100bhp) as 500 quid....not bad i thought. Its just saving up the cash. is there much point in gettin a 1.4 tdi? can you get gains from it? or should i go for the 1.9?

av bin driving over 2 years an had my 1.2 since i past, am looking now at pd130's, dont get the 1.4tdi, get the 1.9T, or if u want petrol get a FR or Cupra, u will insure 1 no probz

I went for the PD100 1.9TDI Sportrider.
100BHP and 190ft-lb of torque (I think)

I took it in for a remap, It roaded at 120bhp and 210ft-lb
After a remap it was at 150bhp 260ft-lb so it was faster than a standard FR.
It really shifted and that was the best car I ever owned.... ever.

that sounds cool! how much are remaps and how much do they up your insurance by?
