Hi guys,

I recently got a 1.2 Tsi Ibiza and I'm noticing a metallic rattle/buzzing sound which I think is coming from the engine bay, drivers side whenever I accelerate and sometimes when cruising.

It's not particularly loud but it is noticeable. The car is only 3 years old with 14k on the clock.

Is this normal or should I get it checked out?

Cheers

I would guess if it was a chain, it would have a steel/alloy timing cover, and only the belt driven ones would have a plastic cover, my wife has a 2015 belt driven Polo 1.2 and it has a plastic belt cover.

One other thing to check, is the turbo at the front of the engine, or behind it?

The cover is black so I've assumed it's plastic.

The turbo pipe is at the back right of the engine. Hope that makes sense.

That makes it the newer engine with a belt driven camshaft.

So now maybe we can separate or remove earlier chain driven engines noises from the equation.
