whirlling / whining noise only at 30mph

Do you guys notice a small whining/whirlling noise only when the car hits 30mph? I mean it's not intrusive or anything, but it's good that i know exactly where I'm around 30mph :). I wonder if it's the tyres.

Same experience with Shell Vpower, car is more willing and smoother. Now have Esso 95 in it. it's allright. I can only say, Vpower is like me doing sports nice and warmed up, and raring to go all other branded 95 fuels, is like me doing exercise when still cold, and still sleepy, haha I know it's hard to describe.

Power & mpg, compared with Esso/Shell 95, I can't notice but Vpower it revs smoother, Perhaps Vpower might give 5 more bhp, but I doubt we can feel that (haven't rev past 5k yet) I know (at least according to 5th gear show), on a Golf GTI Edition 35, or Subary WRX STI, bhp gains could be 10-15 on Vpower!

Might try a bit of Esso Supreme or BP Ultimate (97 RON i guess?). If it's around 1.25 pl or so...else, Momentum 99 @ 1.24

No noise at 30mph for me. Not that I've noticed anyway. Could be the tyres wearing unevenly maybe if tracking is out?

So first service carried out yesterday. Engine is quieter and smoother now. Much like when I first bought it. It had started to get a little more 'gruff' nearing its oil change.

Infotainment not updated, still on version 0245.

One thing I have noticed is they MUST have done something with the DSG. ITS FIXED!
I didn't actually mention my couple of DSG niggles to them when it went in. However it now no longer snatches on take up and the change from 1st to 2nd gear is instant and soooo smooth! Just like it should be!
It makes me wonder if it's had a software update or whether they've reset it to default? They never mentioned anything though.

All in all, I'm even happier now :)

Wait...did your DSG tend to 'drop the clutch' vibrate manual style when setting off in D1/D2 from low rpm (like 1-1.8k)?

When you mention snatch is it a jerky gearchange? Eg...like a new learner driver trying to shift a manual?

So far this is the only 'quirk' i have with the 1.0 DSG, old Leon 2.0TDI 6 speed DSG was smooth up the revs regardless of rpm or gear.

I trust you took it to Seat for a service? I guess this was at £179/£189?

it's acting like a manual of course - so a bit of a shake, but no slams.

Ah...I guess this is how best to describe it...ok I'm not the only one experiencing this. Must be a common thing with this 7 speed DSG.

All other non-manual cars I had driven prior never had this 'shake.'

My DSG has always done that vibrating when setting off, but only if I'm commanding some power from it. Setting off normally doesn't get any vibration. If I set off with pedal to the metal, I get dash vibration/speedo vibration until the revs rise. I can't say that's ever bothered me weirdly, considering how anal I am about things!

Snatchy for me was starting off in D1, or S1, or M1 for that matter. It was very difficult to start without some sort of jerkiness almost making it look like you're going to kangaroo the car/bad clutch control (if it were a manual).

This also happened to some extend from 1st gear into 2nd gear too, the car would pause for a (very) brief second in 1st and then almost say 'oh yeah, I need second gear now', and slam it into second, jolting you back into your Seat.

Yes it went to a SEAT dealer as it's under a two year service programme which was the offer for taking the finance when I bought it last year, so no charge.

Thankfully I don't have the gear pause (yet). but the 1.0 EcoTSI DSG is very difficult to start off smoothly compared to other cars...you need to have a very light 'deft' touch on the throttle otherwise u will feel like someone is shoving you in the back (in a whiplash way), not launch control way.

when I want to get away from the lights (same method with old Leon 2.0tdi DSG), put to S mode, light brakes (so SS doesnt engage) let it creep when lights are red+amber, light throttle to move it forward, 1 sec later...mash throttle to floor. This is when usually you look behind and the other cars get smaller into the distance...but yday I had a new 17 plate Leon (FR or Excellence trim, I dunno which), had the same idea...it was literally a 0-60 race onto the motorway..from a slip road..that car was right up my rear...and I entered @ 65mph and chickend out...lifted off as it was 50mph zone, but the Leon went on to overtake me.... big brother Seat is showing little brother Seat how it's done

*Actually I remembered now I didn't chicken out, my other half in the front seat was giving me a very audible (and shrill) 'overspeed' warning! So I had to lift off!

I'm on this, but I think I will send it for service around the 15-18 month mark...i need to return car serviced once anyway...

You don't by any chance know what oil we need to use to top up on this 2 yr service plan do you? 5W-30 or 5W-40?

I know what you mean about the light throttle on starting. I also know that shoving in the back feeling too :)

That's one thing that inst fixed actually. If I floor it from the lights, it picks up fine, but the change from first to second and second to third give a slight 'pause' between gear changes and then shove you in the back. This isn't present if you start lightly on the throttle. I wondered if someone could try this out at some point and let me know if theirs does it :)

Other than that my DSG now seems to change up quicker than it did before if I'm just wafting along. I'm in 6th by about 33mph. I could be in an electric car for all I know, so quiet!

What revs are we talking about? More than 3k, more than 4k, or more than 5k before upshift?

Assuming you are in D1-D3 or S1-S3 or do you mean paddles on 1-3? As paddles sometime I press, and 1/2 - 1 sec later it upshifts.

Regarding shove in back...this Ibiza doesn't really shove me in the back once moving (or on the upshifts) maybe after being used to feeling 320 NM worth, 200Nm isn't that noticible.

I'm talking foot down. So it literally pretty much red-lines.

Oh I haven't done that just yet...(hit 6k mark)...max rpm was just above 5000 rpm on S mode. I'm assuming you manage to hit the redline in M mode and not in D or S mode?

Engine does sound good when it's on high revs...
