Hello all....apologies for the long post...might be interesting though....

I have recently been in contact with SEAT and the DVLA about the specifications of my Ecomotive ST SE Copa 1.2 and thought it might be worth sharing to see if anyone else has had similar issues.

I bought the car second hand in Oct 2014 and was surprised to find it in VED B when all the information I can find suggests that all the 1.2 Ecomotives are VED A.
I'm not bothered about the £20 tax but when I came to replace two front tyres recently I noticed that the incorrect tyre size comes up on various websites.
It has the factory fitted alloys and 185/60 R15 tyres but comes up as needing 215/45 R16.
After the tyres were replaced the garage (a national chain) pointed out that the tyre pressures noted on the fuel cap were incorrect and that they could not find the correct pressures for these tyres on this car in their database.
fuel cap says 42/39 and 42/44 (Loaded) they set them to 29 all round.
After contacting SEAT they said that this was also wrong and confirmed the pressures should be 30/28 36/36 (loaded) and that the wrong sticker was on my car.

1) Can anyone with a similar variant confirm tyre pressures ?
2) Does anyone have a 1.2 Ecomotive in VED B ?

I am still following this up as the garage also suggested the front brake discs might be incorrectly sized.

The type approval number is e9*2001/116*0067*19

My main concern is that the specs for the car have been incorrectly registered which could mean incorrect parts could be fitted....

I can't answer directly but you might find the following of some help:-

I'd be very surprised if the Ecomotive diesel came with wide 215 tyres since such tyres have higher rolling resistance. My 1.2 TSI SE 5 door petrol Ecomotive came with 185/60-15 tyres.

I seem to remember that the diesel Ecomotive runs with deliberately raised pressures to get a bit more economy albeit with a harder ride. That may explain the rather high pressures on the filler cover. (Mine runs with 30 F 28 R but it is a 5 door not an ST and my petrol engine is probably lighter. My filler flap shows that an ST with these tyres and engine would run with 30/29 and 36/38 loaded). It looks as if SEAT may have quoted you the pressures for an SC or 5-door.

The VED issue, the "reg" people will be relying on whatever the original Seat dealer recorded in the V5, and that will have come from their Seat sales doc for that car, in the case of Audi, the logged details in the service booklet include the emissions - I was told by "informed others" that I was paying too much for my Feb 11 Audi S4 Man Trans, unfortunately the "wise" correcting info I was getting was completely wrong. Your car being an ST might be higher band than an SC etc.

I have done some digging on this and it is just a little unusual.

The Type Approval code for mine covers both the 1.2 and 1.6 version of the ST so this can't determine the CO2. I assume it is the body/engine/gearbox that are mainly contributing to this.

It certainly does seem to be the case that whoever first registered the car must have had a certificate of conformity or similar data sheet to use. I have the details and will contact the dealer.

What's strange is that looking up the VED of other models of the ST Se Copa 1.2 Ecomotive for sale on motors.co.uk most are VED A except for 3 other examples which were all first registered in Sept/Oct 2011.

I wonder if they also have the incorrect tyre pressure on the fuel flap.

What puzzles me is what the difference is between the ones showing 92 and the ones showing 102 g per KM. Unless these few are in fact different from the other examples its hard to work out why they would have higher VED. The ones with 102 are also showing 1645kg revenue weight whereas most of the others are showing 1660 so it can't be that these have extra weight/options.

I suspect a small batch of the cars are different (Engine setup) or there has been a mistake in the SEAT documentation for the cars. It is included in the NOX defeat software issue so I may find out more then.

I will keep at SEAT or the VAG to find out more and post any progress.

...I have no issue with the £20 VED if it is correct I just want to make sure the car has the correct specs and that there is no confusion over any parts or maintenance. I can also imagine if I were to sell the car I might have a difficult time explaining if asked.
