Indictor Relay

Ok guys...

I've recently been driving around in a Hire car around the new VW Passat 55 reg.

Now looking inside it has most the usual add ons that my leon has, but my leon looks better IMHO, but one thing i noticed is that it has a, what i like to call, a "Lazy man's indictor"
Basically u just tap the indictor stalk down and the indictor relay clicks the indictors 3 times without clicking the stalk down to the click point, this is great from overtaking moves and lane changing on the motorway.

Now the question i ask is, can this relay systme be retro fitted into a leon stalk, as from appreance of it, the stalks are identical so guessin the electrical systems are too... therefore the relay should be useable?

Anyone have info on this or done this before?

There is something amusingly ironic about the fact that you can't be bothered to manually control your indicators, but you are happy to spend time re-wiring your dash, replacing relays and goodness knows what else to make 3 seconds of indicating easier

Well actually I was under the immpression that it was sumthing Vagcom controlled... not bothering into wiring anything....

they are a pain in the A**E when it comes to doing flicking your indicators in appritiation to other drivers!

I had a Vectra hire car with the same system. If you are indicating left or right and try to cancel them you end up in a right mess for the first 20 miles.

Sorry to be picky and off thread, but you touched on one of my pet hates.

I get really annoyed when people mess around with their indicators like that. What does it mean? Are they turning? Are they indicating left and intend to turn or did they do it by mistake and are now indicating right and intending to pull out, did they mean to turn their wipers on? Are they breaking down?

Why do people use signals that are not in the highway code? They are meaningless, confusing and potentially dangerous.

Just because you understand what you mean when you flash your indicators or headlights doesn't mean everyone else does.

That's why they wrote the highway code, so we can all have the same understanding and avoid bumping into each other.

Sadly this won't work. The Leon Mk1 is one of the last VAG cars to have a mechanical relay (it's inside the hazard switch if you ever need it). The new cars (including the Passat and Ibiza) uses the ECU to flash the indicators, and so can do the three flash thing.

I didn't think it was harsh, I wasn't having a go at him personally and I wasn't suggesting that we drive round being 'ignorant t**ts', There are other ways of acknowldeging someone else's courtesy without potential confusion.

My point is, that although you think it is 'generally accepted' it is potentially confusing and could cause an accident.

Can be added on!!!! In-Pro make an add on for this function only ever seen it at a show, autosport i think and on there site, they are a german co so not sure where you might get it in uk? But if you do please let me know! see here http://www.in-pro.com/
