Hi All,

I have 2006 Leon 2.o tdi...

With 225 / 45 R17 tyres all round, when i rub my hand over the inside of the rear tyres on both sides it appears to be wearing uneavenly. This is only present on the inside of the rear tyres??

Has anyone else come accross a similar wearing pattern on there Leons?? Or is this pointing to something incorrect on the setup of the rear of the car??

Ta

Quite likely a shot rear damper.

Does it look like this?

My rears are on the way out having done 40k and have worn like you describe, I have read somewhere else on here about Leon's doing this. I also get a drone on some surfaces that sounds like a bearing on it's way out that is supposedly the wear on the tyres.

I've got the same wear on mine and the car is only 9 months old. Started to get a droning noise a few hundred miles after swapping the tyres front to back. When I checked the tyres they have the 50p shape and stepped tread blocks just on the inside edges. Dealer said geometry is only warranted for 6 months so planning on wearing these tyres out asap and getting 4 wheel laser alignment done when new tyres are fitted.

This has been a common problem. The rears are set up with too much negative camber. If you do a search there are several threads about this.

Make sure you get 4 wheel alignment done before you have any new tyres, or they will go the same way.

Just got 2 225/40/18 s fitted to the front and put the near new budgets on the rear and my noise seems to be away. Got dunlop sp's for the front. £250 pair fitted with 4 wheels balanced from national tyres. They seem good so far

Which tyres do you have on the car at the moment?

I remember the mk5 Golf did this with Goodyear Eagle F1s (GSD3, not the Assymetrics) when it came out.

I guess I will have to keep an eye on this, just in case. Do the cars come from the factory set up with too much -ve camber as a compromise to improve handling, or is it just a case of crap quality control.

Send nc30rider a pm on this, he has his set up in a specific way with regard to camber etc, he put up a pic up of his settings a while ago and I got mine aligned as he said and it improved it a lot

Heres a link to one of the old threads.

I will defo be using these settings and finding somewhere in the Manchester area that does 4 wheel laser alignment...
There is so long you can put up with the drowning noise the car makes :(

I will post up when i find somewhere in Manchester unless anybody else knows of somewhere??

Is it also treu that when new if you had done less than 9k then SEAT would fix the issue for you??

I believe this was true for cars on a 06/07 plate although the previous owner of mine did not have this done...

For all those newbs seat owners it may be worth checking out??

for the leon to handle properly you need the good tyres on the rear or you may find the front swapping places with your rear!
the mk1 leon was the same the back needs good grip or it will catch you out.
