Morning all

What are people paying for their insurance and who are they insured with? Had my Ref Sport Aero 8 weeks now from new and there was minimal change on my policy from my previous car (Impreza!).:(

The Dealer said to tell the insurer that it is a 'factory fit aero kit' and hence shouldn't affect the insurance based on standard Ref Sport. Privilege can't recognize it as factory fit and had to treat all as options - shoving £70 on the premium (£450). Must admit I knew the dealer comment was a little optimistic.

Just can't believe that a few bits of extra kit can push a group 9(?) insurance derv into Scooby territory!

27, 3 yrs NCB, 6 nasty horrible points, no ban...

£477. Leon FR TDI (the new one).

I'm with Greenlight.

Admiral wanted £685. Everyone else wanted about £800, most expensive quote was something like £1600.

Thanks for the early responses folks.

I've done lots of online quotes and found RAC to be the cheapest so far (although there is nowhere online to mention the aero kit). Not tried Greenlight yet.

TDI PEP - Have you told Directline about the aero kit? You have got 9 years on me but I have also got full NCD and live in a decent area (I think) so I would like some £320 also:clap:

Keep the replies coming guys and apologies if this kinda thread has been exhausted before.

Hey Jono, I am 28, full NCD, no points (touch some wood) and live in South Yorkshire so I guess your Greenlight quote is pretty good.

Paul Yes I told them about kit explained it was a factory fit and not optional. Took abit of explaining but in the end the guy basically charged me for having side skirts and rear spoler which was about £50 on top of the original quote of about £280.

I just kept on at him saying the car has come out of the factory as it is and its not something I asked the dealer to fit as they are a limited edition.

leon steve - it just goes to show how small factors can make a huge difference!

Privilege charging me £450 and Zurich/Seat quoted £650 when I phoned them for the 7 days complimentary insurance!

Crazy world:shrug:

Company is Zurich, did the confused.com shuffle and the cheapest was some obscure name at £204, but you had to add courtesy car etc.

I've always found the Policy Shop good for insurance and so have the rest of the family and they have a recomendation scheme going which has now contributed £150 to my insurance!!.

Mk2 Leon FR TDI
Age 30,
7 years no claims,
ST postcode,
Fully Comp,
protected,
legal,
£200 excess (Comp + Vol)
2 named drivers

£340.

That includes the suspension upgrade, side skirts and 18" Optional alloy upgrades.

It gets me how these insurance companies differ when it comes to mods.

Privilege wanted £330 and charged no extra for alloys or suspension upgrades, but then wanted an extra £40 for the side skirts (if fitted by main dealer) or an extra £100 if fitted by local garage + doubled my excess on the car to £500- why????? - insurance for you.

Just had an online quote from Admiral - best by a long way so far:funk:
2007 Ref Sport Aero no voluntary excess and Guaranteed bonus protection £349! Thats even after ticking lots of the modifications on their list!

Did a multicar quote as well for the other half's car and that came out cheaper than anywhere else even with the same no voluntary excess and Guaranteed bonus protection!

GIVE THEM A TRY IF YOU HAVE GOT THE AERO KIT
