I'm going to be carrying out a full service on the car next week..... coolant change..the lot.

I'm just wondering whether its worth shelling out more on NGK Iridium plugs?

Has anyone used them and noticed a difference?

I think it has standard plugs at the minute, I was looking at either Bosch super 4's or NGK Laser Platinum plugs before I saw the Iridium ones.

Thanks!

Ive used PFR6Q's and Denso IK22 and can see no difference between those and the copper core BKR7E's which are a third of the price, although they do need changing a little earlier than the plats.

Its up to you really but check out sparkplugs.co.uk for prices as i found them one of the best to use.

Cheers Phil!

Iv been on the sparkplugs website and can get the NGK Iridium plugs significantly cheaper than I have found already, there isnt much difference in price between the normal plugs either.

I did a search on this forums and I read a post where someone mentioned that if a turbo overfuels...or overheats on the cylinder, conventional copper plugs will fail allowing the problem to be noticed, where as iridium plugs will keep on sparking causing a bigger problem...

I used these plugs on my old standard Ibiza Cupra and i swear it made it run smoother (could just be my imagination tho). Not sure about using them on a modified car, lots of people recommend using colder plugs than standard as you have increased the power, these 'colder' plugs are the ones Phil has mentionned.

Really? I would have thought better plugs would have helped optimise power mods.

So the colder plugs are basically standard ones?

BKR7E's are what i use now, seem to do the, regapped at .028". Theyre 2.50 a plug vs. 7.40 a plug, i know which ones i'd go for.

FYI people on vortex are running the BKR7E's (which are one grade colder than standard) on BT applictaions, and i even think some companies like APR supply them with their BT kits.

Didn't realise there was such a range of plugs to go for!

Ill probably go for the BKR7E or PFR6Q's

Im running 240Bhp on a K03s, so if I bought them off the shelf, would I need to re-gap them?

Thanks!

I think the trick is to get a bit of welding rod and make a hook out of it and "yank" the coils out but keep close in the the centre of the coil to avoid breaking them. Personally, I've always just used two screwdrivers - one on each side and eased them up.

use a spark plug socket they have a rubber bit at the bottom so when ou screw it off it stays in the socket either that or undo it and then put the coilpack back on and use that to pull it off
