heres a ridiculous question. is it posible to fit a turbo to my 1.6 leon??

i would like one and i dont wana spend loads doing it.

Mate it is pretty much possible to put a turbo on any non turbo car. But its gona cost ya will not be cheep, i have no idea on how much but i would gess you are lookin at atleast £1500 +

yes that is probably the most stupidest question

it will be a waste of time in terms of power, as the 1.6 is not designed for that amount of power through the head and will probably blow up, it will be unrealiable and will cost an absolute fortune doing it, not to mention insurance

if you want a turbo'd car, go and buy a cupra!!

EDIT: brace yourself for a kicking and a laughing session from other members on here.....you have been warned

i wondered this on my previous 1.6 car, it could be done, with very good results (300bhp) with stock internals. but then that was a nissan and was bullet proof.
you will need at least £5000 and a garage willing to do the job. which will be hard to get.

the only thing that gets in the way is £$£$£! like you say you dont want to spend alot, so it cannot be done. buy a turbo'd car ;)
infact buy a diesel :D

guy near me put a 1.6 polo gti lump in a lupo and supercharged it cost him about 5k not including the cost of the engine and the car. never seen another like it, was craziness for that money you could get a cupra and remap it ;)

Whats going on this week, everybody want to sell wierd things, put cupra's to cupra r spec, engine swap from and RX8, superduper charge this, what the hell is going on?

I know!! what ever happened to the good old big turbo upgrade or the ever reliable " i found this electric turbo on e-bay....."

I blame the music these kids listen to these days , its all noise. Or the mind bending drugs

What about Nitrous, that would bolt straight on and would not hurt the reliability and only cost about £500.

if no one ever dreamed of any thing different the world would be a boring place full of sheep

in repsonse to the question : yes it is possible (anything is in reality) but i will be honest if you had to pay someone to do it it is going to cost you a bomb that would be wiser spent elsewhere.

there are a few 1.4 and 1.6 turbo projects ongoing around (see link above) thx btw amccan10

be warned it's not a buy parts kit and bolt it up with out some research and a lot of innovation but certainly not impossible.

in fact there is a thread around about a 1.8 20vt being shrunk to a 1.4 with something like 350bhp and 10,000 rpm so dont be put off with the bigger is best and bolt this in instead or buy this instead.

be different / be unique / be you

good luck by the way

different yes, all good, but in reality and in terms of financial cost versus performance gained, its not worth it or realistic, which is why 99.9% of people have advised against or dismissed the idea on this thread

the technical know how, custom made parts and sheer volume of work that would have to be poured into this would be ALOT to say the least

in fact the amount it would cost I reckon, you could probably go out and buy an LCR, chip it, and still end up with a faster car

yep...I hear what you are saying...most on here have an LCR and have it chipped, and its following the sheep/crowd etc, and turbo'ing a 1.6 is different, unique, but for the actual benefit in terms of performance, it's simply not worth it

not only that but a 1.6 is not built to take that power, i.e. brakes, suspension, so you are looking at 5k for engine mods and then probably at least another 3k for handling!

that could buy you an LCR which at the end of the day will be all round better, faster, more realiable, easier to tune, and a much nicer and more suitable interior to suit the asthetics of the car as welll

lol thats a no no then, was only wondering anyhow.

im budgeting for a cupra next christmas time. full spec the works. cant wait.

in reality you CAN turbo your car for around £500. It wont fuel propperly, and will run like a bag of poop. BUT you can put a fully atmospheric DV on it and it will impress young girls. And at the end of the day its all about impressing yourn girls isnt it??
