some people may know that im getting rid of the kiwi as the clutch is about to give up. would it be worth repairing it? 66 quid for clutch kit, maybe 100 for new gearbox (reverse gear popping out does my head in) its MOT is due in september and only thing it will fail on apart from emmisions (if it does) is the inside CV boot which i would do when i do clutch.

ive put the car up for sale at the minute as im so sick of it. has loads of mods that i could sell if i scrapped the car. coilies, cat back exhaust, xenons, ronal multispokes, maybe a few other bits.

just wanted other peoples opinion. i could sell it after doing clutch but wouldnt be worth much more.

At the end of the day, it comes down to how good are the good days, when the cars working, sun's out, flowing b-road (or clear motorway, if you prefer  ) if having THAT back is worth the pay out, do it. If you're sick of the car because you want something more modern/faster/economical etc, it's better you send it to the scrapyard in the sky, as the magic that made you start modding it in the first place is gone. Part of modding your car is that you get very attached to it. If you did scrap it, you'd be idly looking online and find a cheap write off with a gearbox and good clutch for £350...I've done it before, really.

At the end of the day, you've got to live with yourself...just remember that.

vngtx,
I was thinking the same as you, a while ago my head gasket and clutch went.
I decided to fix it, because if you buy a newer car, whats to say the same won't happen with that one?
If you like the car then stick with it.

To be honest that isn't hard to sort, box, clutch and cv joints is a good days work.... I've done it 3 times since having the car and it's not hard!

With your reverse gear popping out have you tired chane the gear box oil? Sounds silly but when was that oil chanced last? Not something people think of and do often! And it helped my old mans jeep when it was popping out of 4 high when 4wd was selected.

my main concern is the cluctch cable. some amatuer has gone and welded the snapped pedal box to the bulkhead and in the wrong place so the hole for the cable to go through doesnt line up and have got it trapped and wont come out. if it snaps i wouldnt be able to get a new one in without ripping the whole dashboard out and griding the pedal box to peices. given the state of my body work and that it still needs front bumper, rear bumper, bonnet, wings, new doors, slam panel, radiator, gearbox, carpets, and a full repray i dont think id want to continue fixing it.

would it be worth spending around 300 for lower mileage (below 100K) engine and gearbox?

Your not having much luck! My boyfriend had an 8v, the driveshafts went, then the clutch then the gearbox. We were going to scrap it but he kept throwing money at it. The gearbox cost £650/£700 from a company down south as they had none in the breakers. His clutch kit cost £110 plus all the fitting, then the seals kept leaking, after spending about £2000 on it, it's away to the scrapyard in the sky with a new gearbox and 78k on the engine. What a waste, we could have broke it and got at least some of the money back.
