Is there anything i can do with my LCR to make it run smoother or faster

i was wondering if there was anything you can do to an LCR to make it run smoother or faster just by tweaking the standard parts fr example making gear shifts shorter or tweaking the turbo pressure?

dose changing spark plugs for expensive ones make any difference and putting new fully synthetic oil in do your engine any good?

any knowledge and advice will be appriciated as always :)

The standard map isn't the smoothest in the world, with a few flat spots etc. Apart from a good engine service (spark plugs, filters, oil, etc.) I'd recommend the Custom-Code stage 1 remap which has a very smooth torque curve and is very predictable at all engine speeds.

Clean the MAF and intake, do the N249 bypass, fit a short shifter, then go for the remap if you are wanting it faster.

I may sound stupid hear but i am not familiar with MAF and N249 bypass, i am thinking of the short shifter and the remap is on the list to do but i need to get the other mods sorted first ;)

speaking of exhausts, my mate who has an MX5 has symply taken the Cat and front silencer out and replaced it with steel pipe and it sounds class, can this be done with the LCR, i mean i dont want to wreck my car by doing this or sound cheap but if its worth a try before i shell out over £300 for a Milltek i might aswell give it a go, anybody shed any light on this?

thanks for the help people :D

Fresh oil is always good as it breaks down over time and miles and offers optimum protection to the turbo increasing service life.. I think 5w30 mobile 1 esp is one of the best you can get. I never noticed any difference with better plugs however atleast i know they are now new and can leave them in there 20k. My new tip added some real kick and boost pressure seems to hold longer and higher. A throttle body clean i think has aided the smoothness. Removing the cat optimises exhaust flow as it isnt restricted by a honeycomb but this is bad for emissions and can mess up sensors but i believe they can be mapped out.

You have to run through 2 or 3 tankfulls to get the ECU to adapt to the higher octane. Out of interest did you try a 99RON fuel (like V-Power) as it is better in my experience than the 97RON supers (even more so on a remap).
